September Auto Sales:

TORRANCE, Calif. — American Honda on Tuesday said September U.S. auto sales fell 4.1 percent, as the automaker bucked an industry trend and witnessed a slump in passenger cars and strength in trucks.
The Japanese automaker said September sales fell to 116,226 vehicles from 121,163 vehicles during the same period a year ago. Adjusted to include an extra selling day in September of this year compared to last, sales declined 7.8 percent.
Passenger car sales, including the company's Acura luxury division, fell 13 percent to 67,112 vehicles from 77,157 vehicles a year ago. The Honda Accord and Acura RL lost the most ground.
Overall truck sales rose 11.6 percent to 49,114 vehicles from 44,006 vehicles during the same period a year ago, led by the redesigned Honda CRV compact SUV and the all-new Acura RDX large SUV.
Breaking out the two divisions, Honda sales in the month fell 4.4 percent to 99,903 vehicles from 104,529 a year ago. Acura sales fell 1.9 percent to 16,323 vehicles from 16,634 vehicles last year.
Year-to-date, overall sales at American Honda rose 4.3 percent to 1.2 million vehicles from 1.1 million vehicles during the same period in 2005. Sales rose 3.9 percent on an adjusted basis.
