FORT WORTH, Texas -- Cameras catching drivers running red lights are nothing new, but cameras that are designed to catch speeding drivers are -- and they are arriving in North Texas.
Hickory Creek, in Denton County, and Rhome, in Wise County, are both moving to have the speeding cameras installed on their highways. (note: these communities are near Denton Texas)
Like red-light cameras, speed cameras would snap a photo of the offending car's license plate. Instead of getting pulled over by a police officer, speeding drivers would simply receive their ticket in the mail.
"It allows us to use technology, one, to be more efficient, and two, for officer safety. The officer's not having to stop each individual violator alongside a busy roadway," said
Some opponents to the plan said they are concerned the wrong driver could be ticketed by mistake.
