I made a 20.2 mile trip today (one way). The way up was not so good, only getting around 22 miles per gallon on a shorter route. On the way back, I took a slightly longer road, but it had fewer steep hills.
So, I managed, on this trip home to pull 29.7 miles per gallon out of my Nissan Hardbody, rated at 15 city and 18 highway. Average speed was 29 mph, top was 46 mph.
So that figures to around 180% of combined EPA. Maybe 30 mpg out of this truck is within the realm of possibility after all. Although the tank average is still only around 24.4 mpg according to the ScanGaugeII.

Hey, the rain finally stopped! So I had some dry roads and good weather to go to work with today. I was less than 23 going in to work today. Problem is, I have a long hill, not steep, but about 2 miles long, before my truck can warm up on the way to work. So that kills the morning FE.
But on the way back, everything was great. I got 28.8 mpg! I learned something as well: dfco is your friend! My truck does have it (LOD gauge goes to 12 when coasting in gear, it's normally about 21-22 when coasting in neutral), even though it's a 1996. But the few times I could take advantage of it, it really increased the FE. That is probably my absolute best commute.
Yea, my record of 29.7 still stands, but that was an extra trip, not a work-home trip. The more I learn to drive my truck, the better I seem to be doing. It looks like DFCO and DWL are going to be my friends.

Great job!!
I tried DWL and it is not as effective in my Dodge Dakota 4x4 (97) as P&G from 60-45. But those are things that are fun to see what works for your vehicle and what doesn't. For the Dakota the more you can coast or FAS the better off you are other wise it is just sucking down the fuel. As it is right now with P&G and a few FAS's here and there I am still sucking down 1/2+ gal over 13 miles. So, I just just over 1 gal a day to and from work. I am not sure I would know what to do with a sipping Prius or Insight. :)
Again Awesome job. :Banane18:
