Did you know Honda was the first automobile manufacturer to introduce a gas/electric hybrid model vehicle in the U.S.? They were, but the Toyota Prius quickly become the predominant hybrid in the U.S.
Now Honda has redesigned the Insight for 2010 and lowered the price “to bring the advantages of a hybrid powertrain to a new, less-affluent set of buyers.”
The redesigned 2010 Honda Insight gas/electric hybrid features a 1.3-liter, four-cylinder gasoline engine and a 10-kilowatt electric motor which creates a reasonably simple but still effective hybrid drive system. The system is called Integrated Motor Assist and it seems to work well in keeping costs down and mileage numbers up.
Inside, the Insight features lots of plastic, but it is well-designed. There are no luxury touches here, but the interior design seemed well tailored
Honda’s Ecological Drive Assist System (EDAS) is the focal point of the Insight and it uses feedback to help drivers achieve excellent “real world” fuel economy. The system provides driving style recommendations through an instrument panel background contained within the speedometer that changes color to reflect just how efficiently the driver is accelerating and braking.
