I've been biking past a silver Insight with a flat tire for about a month now and it doesn't seem to have moved, so I decided to check it out a bit more closely.

I hate to see an Insight in that condition just sitting there, but upon closer inspection it may have some bigger problems. Insurance on the car expired 10 months ago. The front bumper seemed to have some cracking paint, and there were some brake pads and what appeared to be an engine valve cover in the back :( Too bad, it was a 5-speed too. I just pray it's not going to end up junked.

Those are NOT the original wheels.

Sounds like its already been junked and somebody thought they could fix it and haven't had the time and/or gave up.

There was one original wheel in the back. It looked like winter wheels and tires on the car.

Oh man I'd love to take that little beauty of the owners hands and give it some love. No Insight should sit there lifeless :(

Try to subtly ask the owner about the car. If you can engage him, you might, through all the interested parties here find a way to bring it back to life. I know that there are some spares around. The engines aren't beyond overhaul for a qualified mechanic.

Maybe I'll try to ask the owner next time I go by. It will have to be a good deal; I don't have a lot of disposable money to take on a second car at the moment. But it sure would be fun to play with.

Mike,

It's all but certain the batteries will need replacing on top of whatever else is ailing it. If you take it as a mission, you might want to check out http://www.hybrid-battery-repair.com/
