What set him off... looked like the trucker didn't move over to allow the SUV onto the highway from the onramp. However, that's not a requirement really.

Aparently he didn't get to the that part in the divers manual about merging on to a highway, those on the highway already have the right of way, being polite IF no one is to your left you can move to the left and allow the other person on the highway but this is not a requirement. It is the person on the ramp that must slow down and YEILD to traffic already on the highway. Stupid, Stupid Stupid. :shakingheadindisgust:

So it's is true it takes a semi more time to stop that an SUV. Thank goodness for this video or I would have never known.

I wonder if the semi driver got off scott free?

The SUV may have legally owned the lane at the point the semi was passing him, so the semi may have effectively split the lane and then force the SUV off the road, instead of slowing, although even if this is true, the SUV still did a poor job of merging in and would have his own accountability.

I also wonder if the semi driver fully tried to stop, however as the SUV is being very agressive, I certainly wouldn't hold it against the semi driver. If someone tries to punch you, I don't see a reason not to punch back....even if your fist is 100 times heavier than the other guys.

Make you think that video systems aren't nearly as common as they should be, and that police should accept videos to issue tickets.

I usually tell my family when coming up to a merging area on the highway let the merger decide wither to get in front of you or not. Just keep a constant speed.
