The attraction of this car is undeniable with party line crossing popularity. --Ed.

WASHINGTON – Ford doesn’t make the Maverick any more or John McCain’s decision might have been even easier.

On his Twitter feed this morning, the Republican U.S. senator from Arizona and last year’s unsuccessful presidential candidate said he needs some new wheels and is investing in a Ford Fusion Hybrid. His office said he’s getting it in silver with the optional voice activated navigation system (to be connected to his new iPhone which he got a few weeks ago).

It appears he is taking delivery of the car at his Senate offices in Washington on Tuesday.

From a political standpoint, the selection makes sense. He goes with an American car that is environmentally friendly while not picking one made by the two domestic automakers going through bankruptcy restructuring, Chrysler Group and General Motors. I know he isn't well liked by many (including me).

But voting against giving money to the automakers AND buying a (very) sensible car from the American company that is still chugging along gives him some credibility in my book.

There are other areas where he looses it, but that's not for this thread.
