I was listening on the radio about Centenarian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centenarian)s.

Four areas of the world with a high percentage of centenarian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centenarian)

Okinawa
Sardinia
Costa Rica
a community 75 miles east of LAThe factors they had in common is staying active, contact with others, spirituality, positive mindset, getting exercise.

Also, they tended to eat less and made a higher percentage of what they ate healthy foods. Their diet leaned towards vegetarian, more fruits and grains.

I heard some of that report also, on NPR. Lots of antioxidants, Omega 3, vegetables etc.

And fish, too?

jkp1187,

Now that you mentioned it, they all ate McDonald's McFish with cheese sandwiches.

Just kidding, I didn't hear all of the report as I was in and out of my car. I remember them specifically saying foods high in Omega 3 fatty acids...Seventh Day Adventists in California who didn't watch T.V., ate as a family, people from somewhere else who ate/drank sheeps milk/yogurt high in something:confused:, the sardinians drank a wine that had triple the antioxidants of normal wines, 5 one hundred year old women who would have a get together and drink saki and talk about sex. Exercise like gardening was good because of the full range of motions envolved, a good stress reliever and when the crops came in, it gave you veggies! :woot:

I believe it was a weekly public radio show called "Science Out of the Box" but I don't remember; if I heard it Friday or Saturday. That is a Friday show.

I could/may call my local public radio station and see if they could tell me what aired this past weekend....I would like to hear the whole thing, there are so many people I would like to outlive! Like Richard Simmons, Keith Richards, Dolly Parton, Elvis, Ted Kennedy and others you may not be as familiar with. :D - Dale

I'm digging. A similar story was in a National Geographic edition. Same author, different interviews/reports.

Not the exact story we heard this past week but it may be more informative, definitely longer:

I'm going to work in the garden, if I find more I'll post it. :D - Dale
