Drivers beat the EPA rating over the 6965 mile drive, with some segments over 60mpg --Ed.

Automakers are always trying to find more effective ways to get their new products in the public eye, but Honda Canada came up with a unique road trip that not only gained attention for its all-new 2010 Insight hybrid, it also helped boost Canadians' awareness of our environment by drawing attention to green initiatives being undertaken across the country.

The "Insight into Canada" tour was a 32-day, coast-to-coast drive from Victoria to St. John's. The journey was divided into 25 legs, with one journalist driving each leg. I covered the final segment last week, from Gander to Cape Spear, Nfld., (near St. John's), the eastern tip of North America. From the Mile Zero marker in Victoria on April 21 to the final stop, Insight Canada 1 (so designated as the first Insight to be registered in this country) covered 11,208 kilometres. With 25 different drivers (and a wide range of driving styles), the car still posted an average fuel consumption rate of 5.34 litres per 100 kilometres. The best fuel mileage on the tour was achieved by Ottawa journalist Paul Williams, who squeezed out an average of 3.8L/100 km on a 218-km run from Parliament Hill to the Biosphere in Montreal. (Transport Canada rates the Insight at 4.5 L/100 km highway, 4.8 L/100 km city.)

The only mechanical issues encountered were a flat tire and two windshield chips -- one that was easily fixed en route; the other occurring in Newfoundland that spread well across the front glass by the end of the journey.... http://www.nationalpost.com/cars/story.html?id=1640746

It's comforting to know that it's apparently easy to beat the EPA figures for this car. Unless Honda launches the Hybrid Fit by 2012, the Inisght-II will be my next car when I replace the elderly 2001 Accord. (thankfully, we've been driving the Scion xD more often these days!)
