http://www.cleanmpg.com/photos/data/2/AmericanFlag.jpg The goal is to use the readings to maximize your driving efficiency. It (Smart Gauge) definitely works, though it can be as distracting as a video game. (http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601088&sid=auwdTi27sNZY&refer=muse)

At least he tried hypermiling, but for the umpteenth time - we don't draft! --Ed.

I have become what I most hate. As the traffic light turns green on Manhattan’s Park Avenue I feather the gas pedal, softly rolling forward. Horns blare and yellow cabs swirl round my blue Ford like a river divided by a rock.

I coast the Fusion Hybrid to the next light, ignoring the invective directed at me, the maddeningly slow driver clogging up traffic.

But damn I’m getting good gas mileage.

If sports-car lovers fixate over Nurburgring lap times and power-to-weight ratios, there’s an equally obsessive eco-green set who argue over consumption-over-distance ratios and the etiquette of hypermiling -- the practice of driving to maximize fuel economy. ... http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601088&sid=auwdTi27sNZY&refer=muse

That was a terrible article. There is an agenda of course. "Keep Burning Oil"

What an awful article. He says the Fusion's styling is bad did he look at the 2nd gen Prius? No offense it is an egg on wheels.

And compared to previous interiors I think the new Fusion has a decent one.

Yeesh. The keep burning oil agenda as vtec-e said is very much alive in this article.

My evil wish for writers that say "hypermilers draft semis and roll thru intersections" is they will in time say something equally inaccurate that will catch serious grief like "all Muslims consider bin Laden a folk hero".

It's probably unrealistic to hope for intelligent automotive reporting from Bloomberg.

A woman at work has a conventional Fusion. I think the styling is very nice.

The only things I see wrong with the Fusion are the price, a bit too high, and the conventional engine, a bit too large.

When I first hypermiled, I was hypersensitive to the real and perceived reactions of other drivers. Now, I worry a lot less. The writer who wrote this article has not logged enough time as a hypermiler to adjust his thinking and behavior to suit hypermiling.
