So I just completed a whirlwind tour of the western interior US, coming from the Alberta border all the way down to the Hoover Dam. Here were the conditions in 09 Corolla with 1.8L:

1) Temp range from +18C to +46C.
2) Very little wind.
3) steady cruising at 120-130km/h or 75-80mph except for a couple of construction zones.
4) A/C on 70% of the time

Fuel economy ranged from 6.7L-5.4 /100km or 34-42mpgUS. I tried Chevron's techron, Shell's nitrogen and BP's invigorate...all midgrade 88octane (car is rated for 87 min). the best tank by far was the tank in which I used premium 91 Texaco in hilly, twisty Montana (none of the other brands were available). Worst tanks were when I used Shell.

The extent of my HM tools I could use were cruise always except for some DWL on some hills. No wonder the US citizens complain about poor fuel economy. These Lunatics are passing me at those speeds!! I can't get any economy at those high speeds unless the ground is dead flat. Good thing gas is a few cents cheaper...they are going to need it just to compensated for the insane speeds. I pity them when gas goes back up to $4/gal USA, cuz you know they aren't going to slow down... :(

One thing is for sure...I am glad to be back in Canada, where I don't fear for my life to go 90km/h or 55mph and I back to enjoying stress free 5.6L/100km or 43mpgUS and greater tanks again....
:woot:
