View Full Version : Her Shirt "Sucks"
Chuck 05-29-2009, 04:11 PM A Texas Rangers fan who wore a shirt that declared "Yankees Suck" was asked to turn her shirt inside out or leave the Arlington ballpark before the start of the game against the New York team, according to media reports. It was one of several rule the Rangers' management had to promote a family-friendly environment. Of course this would probably be encouraged at Fenway Field. :p
PaleMelanesian 05-29-2009, 04:16 PM Their house, their rules. shrug
I get tired of the whole "The other side is terrible" argument, be it in politics, sports, vehicle choice, etc. It tells me that your own side has nothing positive, so you just make the other seem even worse to make yourself look good. Childish when children do it, and even more so when adults do it.
TheForce 05-29-2009, 05:39 PM This is still a free country I guess so you should be able to wear what you want. However I agree with PaleMelanesian. Their house, their rules. Freedoms still apply to businesses even if the choices make the company look bad.
satchel 05-29-2009, 06:07 PM It may be childish but "Muck Fizzou" just has a nice ring to it!
bomber991 05-29-2009, 09:32 PM Well if they sell beer there and allow people to get unruly drunk, then it should be ok.

Agree. Bad manners should never be encouraged. This isn't a free speech thing, unless the government owns the stadium.
I voted "no" accidentally - read the question as "is it okay to wear a "...sucks" T-shirt," instead of "is it okay for a stadium to ban..." those shirts. Count mine as a yes instead.

Chuck 05-31-2009, 12:59 PM Sorry about that.
Doofus McFancyPants 06-01-2009, 10:05 AM Agree with the "Their House / Their Rules". Not really a "Public" area - although they are built with public funds - In the parking lot you can wear it - but not inside.
Plus it really speaks to the intellegence (specifically the lack there of) of the wearer.
satchel 06-01-2009, 11:26 AM " intellegence[sic] (specifically the lack there of)"

Doofus McFancyPants 06-02-2009, 06:56 AM wow i totally fubared that one.
i need to STOP living up to my screen name.
Chuck 06-02-2009, 10:14 AM When I posted this thread, the Free speech vs Community issue did not come up - I just thought it was funny.
Turns out it's an issue with CleanMPG itself and forums all over the internet.
Trollers commonly twist free speech into a license to do anything they want, but this is not even true face-to-face....you can get arrested for disturbing the peace, or kicked out of a house for offending a family. So the question is where do you draw the line? Each place makes the call on where to draw it.
satchel 06-02-2009, 10:54 AM Was that directed at me? If so I agree, I shouldn't have gone grammar police on Steve publicly. I should have pointed out the misspelling in a PM, or not at all. Sorry if I offended.

Chuck 06-02-2009, 12:48 PM So there is no misunderstanding, it's up for debate about wearing a "Yankee's Sucks" shirt being too offensive/indecent....trollers go further. That or twist a legit disagreement and make it disruptive.
Nobody in this thread has been out of line.
All I was trying to say is the Texas Rangers set their rules, just as we do at CleanMPG. Not trying to say we have anything else in common other than that.
Doofus McFancyPants 06-03-2009, 06:05 AM I sure am not offended by your comment - You did not call me a "Doofus" - I did that myself : )
I type so fast - I sometimes miss-key words.
Also i am not a very good speller - do dependant on Spell Check at work.
Although i just noticed there is a spell check feature here as well.
I will be sure to utilize in future

SD3_Driver 06-11-2009, 05:52 PM don't know what the problem was, it is fairly common these days to do that as a way to be "funny"... and "free speech" we lost it 7 years ago....
Shiba3420 06-12-2009, 07:25 AM I'd say it is a freedom of speech thing and they should be allowed to wear anything that isn't an outright swear, and I personally don't even care about swears. It lets me know what sort of people I'm dealing with even before I get within 20 feet of them.
That aside, what I don't get is what you would even want to think your opponent "sucks", or, put another way, is inferior. Maybe someone needs to point out to these fools just what they are saying...
If they win against their opponent, where is the victory? They just beat a team that sucks....hardly impressive. Unless their own team sucks, it shouldn't even be a proper contest with any excitement.
If they loose against their opponent, they just got belated by someone who sucks. Wow! What does that say about their own team?
Wouldn't it be far better to say how great the other team is? If they win, you can always say, "well yea, but you guys are so great this year, we felt good just making it a close game. No hard feeling and we will see you again next year". On the other hand, if you win, you get to proclaim, "We just beat one of the best teams in the league. We must also have one of the greatest teams! YEA!"
Some people are just so simple and never think through their actions. Probably the same jerks who tailgate me for 10 miles in a lane where they can't pass and where the next car in only 2 to 3 seconds in front of me.
desdemona 06-13-2009, 03:53 PM I think the meaning--connotation and denotation-- of the word has changed. I suppose if you think about it enough you could figure out where it comes from (the etiology)-- if you didn't know already, but words changed and this is one word where the word has gotten milder, not nastier. BTW, I let my high school kids say it versus some other words. So actually I don't think this is really a freedom of speech thing at all. THis is just silliness.
I suppose their stadium their rules might apply. They could ban a shirt saying "The Yankees are bad", if they wanted to.
BTW, don't they? :D

Chuck 06-13-2009, 03:58 PM The Rangers, Yankees and Red Sox have the best records in the American so they are all about 60 games into the 2009 season.
