View Full Version : Just for fun: How's your color vision?
PaleMelanesian 05-13-2009, 01:44 PM If you have a few minutes to kill, test your color perception by sorting the rainbows. Low score is better.

Caution: may cause dizziness and/or confusion. :D:p
Skwyre7 05-13-2009, 02:34 PM I scored an 8.
fuzzy 05-13-2009, 05:10 PM 22. All the errors were clustered together above the letters "show the reg" on the scoring chart. But this chart shows some significant discontinuities on my LCD display, so I should try again with a different display.
abcdpeterson 05-13-2009, 05:52 PM WOW cool, and.... that is um....
HARD on the eyes.
got 20.
JusBringIt 05-13-2009, 06:15 PM took the test and hit score..only to find out my internet connection went (wireless) :mad:
JusBringIt 05-13-2009, 07:19 PM In that case, I think I scored a 32..o well
Right Lane Cruiser 05-13-2009, 07:56 PM I also managed 8. I could tell there were issues, but a few of the blocks didn't seem to fit anywhere quite right. It could be the LCD on my laptop, I suppose...
peacefrog_0521 05-13-2009, 07:58 PM I scored a 34, not very good. This test is required for those required to judge color & appearance for exterior & interior automotive parts. I used to have to take this test and be re certified each year when I was working with interior trim panels. The test was always with certified color chips under controlled lighting. I had to be re-certified for color acuity each year. My first time I got a 16, just enough to pass. The next year, after a lot of practice with trained professionals under the lights, I got down to a 4 which was very good. But I haven't had to do it in at least a few years now, so I think I'm off my game.
You'd be surprised how much science there really is in color matching.
worthywads 05-13-2009, 08:00 PM Got a 22 the first time around and a 3 on the second try. Eyes are glazing over though.
Gairwyn 05-13-2009, 08:57 PM Interesting test. I've had to take a color-blindness test at work because we need to be able to distinguish various colors in blood smears to do cell differentials. The test they give us has colored dots in various patterns, and you need to be able to visualize the pattern in the dots.
I'm going to have my daughter take this test too; she's a graphic design student. I bet she beats my score below:
* Your score: 19
* Gender: Female
* Age range: 50-59
* Best score for your gender and age range: 0
* Highest score for your gender and age range: 1520
(My boss will be glad I didn't score the 1520.)
laurieaw 05-13-2009, 09:00 PM i scored 11. i work with color a lot at work, in photoshop. i will have to try it on my new monitor next week.

I like the "Range"
low is 0 - and high 1520 :eek:
male 45, but the Range for my test was the same. ether something wrong or someone is testing without moving anything.
My wife work in a medical lab, I will have to ask her if she ever has to do any testing like that.
Gairwyn 05-13-2009, 09:27 PM I wonder if the range listed is the same (0-1520) no matter what.
diamondlarry 05-13-2009, 09:48 PM 27 for me.
Gairwyn 05-13-2009, 10:22 PM Ooooh...my kid beat my score big time:
* Your score: 0
* Gender: Female
* Age range: 20-29
* Best score for your gender and age range: 0
* Highest score for your gender and age range: 1520
(It seems that the score range IS the same no matter what.)
fuzzy 05-14-2009, 12:00 AM Ooooh...my kid beat my score big time:
* Your score: 0 ...
Did she use your display, or did she her own (and possibly much better) unit?
I'm suspecting that some folks with high quality CRTs are going to do much better than those of us on low power, narrow viewing angle LCD displays.
drimportracing 05-14-2009, 01:03 AM * Your score: 52
* Gender: Male
* Age range: 40-49
* Best score for your gender and age range: 0
* Highest score for your gender and age range: 1520
Looks like I got the high score!:woot: - Dale
Elixer 05-14-2009, 01:38 AM I'm suspecting that some folks with high quality CRTs are going to do much better than those of us on low power, narrow viewing angle LCD displays.
Definitely. My LCD is more than 5 years old and was built to have a fast response time for gaming and action movies, and reviews of it state that its color reproduction isn't very good. It's somewhat noticeable in normal conditions, so I really feel that the bias is against me in such a test.
edit:
my results:
# Your score: 0
# Gender: Male
# Age range: 20-29
# Best score for your gender and age range: -4
either I have very good eyesight or my monitor is better than I think it is! haha
Oh and how does one score a "-4"?!
PaleMelanesian 05-14-2009, 08:35 AM I scored zero - perfect. I made use of both monitors in my dual setup here at work. I did it all, then moved over to the other to double-check. I made a few changes that apparently worked.
Mr. Pancake 05-14-2009, 11:30 AM I scored 20 and now my eyes are going to pop out of my head.
GrendelKhan 05-14-2009, 11:50 AM Score: 8
male
40-49
Die2self 05-14-2009, 01:34 PM Your score: 11
Gender: Male
Age range: 30-39
Best score for your gender and age range: 0
Highest score for your gender and age range: 1520
not a great monitor
froggman 05-14-2009, 02:45 PM I scored 19
Age 40-49 Male
I am using a 10 + year old monitor. So not too bad.
brick 05-14-2009, 05:47 PM Scored a 4. I wonder how display quality factors into this test?
Gairwyn 05-14-2009, 08:09 PM Did she use your display, or did she her own (and possibly much better) unit?
I'm suspecting that some folks with high quality CRTs are going to do much better than those of us on low power, narrow viewing angle LCD displays.
We both used the same 2004 vintage Dell PC with the desk-hogging monitor. She has a Mac laptop, but we wanted to use the same monitor to see how we compared. I know she has better eyesight than I do, and far more patience!
Shrek 05-15-2009, 02:16 AM I got a 3! (Age 30-39) (And with even more effort I might have gotten 0)
I have a darn good monitor I should say.Rather new EIZO LCD at work.
SlowHands 05-15-2009, 08:19 AM 22 for me. LCD monitor at work, eyes are now trying to drill their way into my brain.
Damionk 05-16-2009, 01:44 PM Try staring at that for a few min then suddenly switching back to this thread...I thought I was going to go blind.
By the way, I scored a 20. Strangly enough I have trouble with blueish-greens yet scored perfectly in that section.
Mr. Pancake 05-16-2009, 07:55 PM Monitor must be a large factor. The first time I took the test was at work and I got a 20, I just tried it again on my lap top and scored 0.
drimportracing 05-17-2009, 01:23 AM My previous high of 52 was rather disappointing so I took it again.
It's an improvement but I think if I do it first thing in the morning rather than late night after work I'll do better. I'm going to blame the rest on my 3+ year old laptop, not because it isn't clear and brilliant but because...maybe I suck at this test. :D
* Your score: 33
* Gender: Male
* Age range: 40-49
* Best score for your gender and age range: 0
* Highest score for your gender and age range: 1520
I got a 1010 by not moving any blocks and hitting the results button! I moved one block and got a 985. :D - Dale
BailOut 06-01-2009, 01:35 AM I am red-green colorblind and that test was primarily based on those two factors. As such I bombed it horribly.
Your score: 157
Psion 06-01-2009, 03:09 PM As a professional color scientist, I run these test on people all the time, but with physical tiles, as computer screens are not always calibrated properly.
My score on the real test was 2. Not sure I'd trust this test...it might give me a complex and cause me to doubt my work...lol
BTW, going back to a white screen will play havoc on your eyes, as the rhodopsin has been filtering how you see color. (I know I'm a color geek!)
