While almost embarrassing amongst some of the achievements you guys accomplish, I wanted to share a new personal tank record.

My previous record tank over the 5 1/2 years and almost 87k miles I've had my Prius was 72.3mpg, so this really blew my old record out of the water. I had a lot of conditions line up well thanks to a terrible work schedule. I worked a lot of shifts during off peak traffic hours, worked at times that prevented me from being able to pick up my kids from or take them to school (which are shorterr MPG killing trips). Thus, the huge majority of my trips were the 15 miles to and from work with the ability to use an EBH at both ends.

This also pushed my LMPG to 56.1...and it feels good to be solidly beating the OLD EPA MPG estimated MPG for the Prius II and making a joke of the current 48mpg estimate.

Anyway, I knew this group was a place to share this info.

Congrats. Next is the 1000 mile tank. If you stuff the tank, you only need to increase up to about 81 MPG. That would be a nice achievment prior to the sabattical.

while 81mpg might be possible if you take my kids out of the equation for about 3 weeks and give me temps in the 70-80 F range, I still don't think I'd get to 1000 miles.

The most I've ever filled my tank with was around 9.5 gallons and my last pip had been flashing for 40 miles or so. The stinking bladder has just never given me anything close to the 11.9gal capacity. Even yesterday, I filled with 7.7 gallons and CAN-View was showing only 10% of my tank capacity left (~1.2 gallons). And we know that ~ 0.5 gallons isn't usable. So best case I had maybe another 50 miles left before running out.

And I don't really want to force fill, I've seen the damage an overfill can do to the tank and am not really interested in that particular repair!

Thanks for the congrats.

Hi Evan:

___To see this so early on in the year makes me really proud of your achievement!

___I suspect you will see more of those tanks as time goes by as well :)

___Good Luck and congrats again!

PS: Are you and your wife purchasing a 2010 Prius-III with the Prius Connect Deal later this month or early next?

Great tank Evan! I understand the kid commute thing. We are out of that for about a month now and I can already see a little improvement to my wife's mpg.

Thanks Wayne,
Actually, it was an unusual sequence of events that allowed such a good tank, I expect a bit different as summer progresses with longer and shorter trips being the norm.

We decided against a 2010 b/c we're going on sabatical in 2010 for 9 months, my current Prius seems to be doing OK (76.1mpg worth of OK), and I have a Tesla Model S on order that I expect to get by early 2012 if not sooner. I think I'll just avoid the financial hit and run my 2G into the ground.

Oh yea. I should have a pretty low number too. I got my deposit in in the afternoon of March 26th, just a couple hours after they opened up reservations and I also got a Roadster buyer to give up one of his Friends and Family tickets that's supposed to give priority over the run-of-the-mill buyers.

Yup...and yea, I'm excited too. Trying to keep it reigned in a bit since it's so far off, but we already have plans for PV and wind power on the house we'll build when we get home and before taking delivery of the Tesla...so we have to think ahead.
