Prius II production will finally be let loose.

TOKYO (AFX) - Toyota Motor Corp plans to boost domestic production of its Prius hybrid car by 50 pct to about 300,000 vehicles in 2007, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported, without citing sources.

The Nagoya-based automaker now makes the popular Prius cars completely in Japan and exports them to 40 countries and regions.

To limit investments that are needed to increase the production of Prius, however, Toyota will reorganize production lines and shift production of models other than the Prius to other sites from two plants in Aichi Prefecture that currently roll out the hybrid vehicles, the business daily said.

So when they say "domestic production" they're talking about Japan?
Having read in bashing article after bashing article that people are turned off by the wait, this is great news. Now they'll have to find something else to bash. I'm sure they'll quickly go back to the fear of electrocution if you drive your Prius into a lake.

___Kind of funny how these kinds of news items pop up after we talk about them in other threads, isn’t it :)

___What I think happened is gasoline prices fell fast enough for Toyota exec’s to say we will lose our market if we don’t start placing them on the lots. Few are going to wait in line for a halo car if the reason it’s a halo car dropped by 30% in the last 7 weeks? Hopefully this same reason will make it easier to sell the MDX and purchase a hybrid or two for my own household ;)
