Hi,
I am real glad I found this forum. I got introduced to hypermiling from an article by Josh Zumbrun in the Washington Post. That's when I heard about Wayne and then a little more searching brought me to this web site. And reading about all the techniques that folks have mentioned here has taught me a lot and I am trying to get to be a better driver.
I live in the Washington DC suburbs. I drive a 1996 Honda Civic LX manual transmission with a life time MPG around 36. I have about 117K miles on the car. I drive roughly 50% on city roads and 50% on the Washington beltway for my daily 18 mile each way commute. Since starting to apply what I have learnt here 3 tanks ago, my average has been around 41 mpg with the best being 42.76 and lowest being 39.58 on the last one. I am an avid environmentalist and this goal of saving fuel fits perfectly with me. The specific techniques I have already implemented are gentle acceleration, DWB, DWL, FAS (when I can), PP and Face-out parking. I drive 55 mph on the beltway and posted speed limits on the city roads.
I hope to purchase a SG-II next month and that should help me a lot. My goal is to try and touch 45 mpg in the summer months (have to wait till next year for that) :( . I don't know what the winter months will hold.
But thanks to you all for making this such a fun and educational site. I like the passion with which all of you approach this topic.
