So this story has been getting way too much coverage in the Detroit area, and it's clear where the fans stand (or, stood) on this issue.
But I'm guessing that William Clay Ford is just as myopic as his company, not looking at the trends beyond Detroit.
So what do you all think about the Lie-On's selecting QB Matt Stafford (instead of say, Aaron Curry) with the #1 pick?

I buy into into the Parcells/Belichick school of 1st round picks are overrated, so trade it to get a 2nd round and another pick to improve your odds of finding a keeper.
Besides, the Lions need help in virtually all positions.

On the one hand, you have to have a good quarterback. But if your organization is bad, it won't matter who you pick. You will find new and creative ways to lose.

Agreed. I was impressed (though personally disgusted) that the Cowboys had 12 picks on the 2nd day, and traded their only Day 1 pick. Now the Cowboys can make low-cost, high-value-potential picks to their hearts' content, and if half of them are washouts, so what? The Lie-Ons could have used such a strategy-but didn't.

The Lions are in no position to trade down and pass on good players. They would absolutely lose their fans. Also, 0-16 means you need good players. You can't pass on anyone 'cause he's probably better than what you have on your squad now. Good teams like my Eagles can trade down - not as many holes to fill.
