I'd just like to express my grattitude and amazement to everyone here who maximizes efficiency. It is relatively easy to buy a fuel efficient car and to drive it as everyone else and believe the car should do it all.

It's quite another thing for someone to be all they can be in what they are interested in and to take their ability to the limit. No matter what you drive- or the results of your efforts...if you're working to improve yourself and skills it's more than 99.9% of what others are doing.

My hat is off to everyone working on this on a daily basis- we have some of the best of the best in the world right here at CMPG.com... and eager to share knowledge & experience.
Look at the elite in the list here(Others too): http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1014
Indeed among the best of the world.

I echo your sentiment. And the more people willing to come and learn with us the better! The array of skills, techniques, and ideas is part of what makes this place what it is. If every driver in the US took to heart just one or two of the many possible improvements, we would be far advanced in the oil game and at zero cost.

Hi Steve and Brick

There is no question about that, but I am concerned that people trying to learn that visit this site are intimidated and maybe reluctant to join and post. One member has expressed this to me already.

Many of us here make FE a hobbie and a challenge everytime we turn a key, I know I do now. Every day I make improvements that I know would make others besides us think impossible.

When I saw the results of the Hybridfest challenge, there may have been one FEH owner that participated. On one hand, I felt I should have been there to represent Ford and my fellow FEH and MMH owners. On the other hand, I would not want to set the bar where other FEH owners would sit on the sidelines for fear of intimadation. Looks like when I attend next year, I'm just going to have to give some of those HCH's and Prius owners a run for their money in my FEH.

It's true, we all love to share our technique to help everyone improve their FE. I hope people who come to this site are not afraid to ask questions about something they don't fully understand. Also, some people may have a better technique at one thing, but overall maynot be getting the average numbers of others here. If I have not tried it, I want to hear about it.

I think you hit the nail on the head when you spoke of improvement. I recently posted that the most important thing to keep in mind is that improvement is being made. The numbers themselves aren't as important as is the fact that they are rising. The last thing I would want to happen is that someone would be intimidated by the numbers I post. The main reason I post is to show what can be possible by changing driving style. Also, I can go back through the posts and review to see what works and what doesn't. When Wayne first told me that 70+ segments were possible, I thought he was crazy and that I could never do that. Now, after several 70+ segments and a couple of 80+ segments, it's a matter of practicing so improvement can be made.

I agree. When I posted on greenhybrid's database I was the lowest one there. I wasn't intimidated by the #1 guy. I strove to be that good (and I'm still only in the middle of the pack over there). I realy hope people don't get intimidated. But realy they should look at cleanmpg as professionals that know what they are doing (like you would look at a baseball player in the pros). If a team came to your town and offered to let you participate in their training would you feel intimidated enough not to show up? It would be a great loss.

For any guests new new members that feel intimidated, don't be. Sometimes we talk advanced stuff, but there are other posts that are more basic and intermediate. And don't be afraid to ask questions. We will be happy to answer them.

Hi All:

___I do enjoy reading the really good drivers posts here but I also get the biggest kick when reading about the new drivers who have put the techniques into practice and are climbing like they were shot out of a cannon. Just the other day Bradlee Fons told me Bobb and Jane Cherney hit their first 70 mpg segment in their relatively new Prius II. Bobb posts here very rarely but I remember the first P&G clinic Jane and another MHG member had with me in the passenger seat. She was a brand new hybrid driver and nervous like you would not believe! Today they are punching out 70 + mpg segments. Carl H. was in the mid to high 40’s with his brand new Prius. Today, he is punching out 80 mpg tanks. Look at Tom’s own. He was forever in the low to mid 40’s until he too started learning. If it were not for his terrible inner city commute, he would be punching out 70 mpg tanks every time. Hearing he nails the occasional 65 + mpg segment is pretty amazing given his stop light to stop light commute. Sno779 was a decent Insight hypermiler in the low 80’s for an lmpg and last month he nailed a 1,512 mile tank @ 112 mpg or some other such number. Laurie having to drive through MN. winters and Tarabell having her husband driving 8 mile segments pulling her down all the while they can nail 70 + mpg segments when they want. Larry who came from basic hypemiler to pushing out 2X's the EPA highway segments as of late … Just start looking at the tanks of those who post them. Not the biggies but the members who may not post much here. I check the DBase at least every 3 or 4 days and to see new drivers going from the initial lows to Hypermilers and then to expert rated highs through an entire tank or two over a matter of months is really exciting! These are the stories I like to hear about and am glad we have members like them that share their tanks with us and stories when they find the time.

___The above was not to take anything away from Billy, Krousdb, Basjoos, Randall, Hot Georgia, Lindermant or myself but we usually post decent tanks. I sometimes wonder if I should even post in the daily grind threads because I am not really providing anything new to the membership as a whole when I do?

___Good Luck

Please keep posting. As I've said before, when one of us wins in the FE game, we ALL win.

I think my choice of wording for this thread was very poor and out of context of the meaning of my message. I didn't realize the other implication it could have.

I've pointed many folks to CMPG who are curious about it all and wouldn't want to give the wrong idea and thanks for giving light on that.

Steve

I thought the structure and wording was just fine. So much so I claped when I read the post!

The best of the best are here! Form the most salty and season vet. To the intrested noob.

Blowing out EPA numbers isnt easy. It is intemadating. Its not new by any means. But it does seem to take a certin kind grit. And that grit is found right here!

Honestly, I was merely lurking for a long while before becoming a member. I was seeing mostly Hybrids and numbers like 70 and 80, but then I realized something...

It's not the number, it's the improvement on whatever you have. As you can see below, I have 2 "gas guzzlers", IMO, but we're trying to squeeze every MPG out of every tank.

I've noticed that this site is focused one of the most important aspects of Hypermiling: Driving Technique. That's definitely one of the strong points of the site. I am a regular member of another site that does some of this and mostly Vehicle Modification and Experimentation. IMHO, both sites serve their respective purposes excellently.

I also like it here because of the updated news, NICELY detailed fuel logs, and friendly folks.

Thanks for helping our family improve driving technique, which has helped tremendously!

Nicely put! One of my favorite expressions is: If you are not green and growing, then you are ripe and rotting.:)
