Zero-S BEM - $9,950 to start and a 60-mile AER.

Zero Motorcycles has done it. They have released the much anticipated Zero-S road ready and worthy all electric motorcycle. Not only is the Zero-S a pure BEM (Battery Electric Motorcycle), it is a looker. Gone are the days of science projects and CleanMPG welcomes the reality of all-electric motorcycle riding.

The Zero S is a Supermoto bike that is fully electric. Meaning NEVER having to stop at the gas station ever again!

Developed by the company’s founder, Neal Saiki, the Zero-S takes on a multitude of our current transportation problems in one fell swoop. The Zero S integrates revolutionary Li-Ion battery with innovative motorcycle design. Using Zero Motorcycles’ proprietary Z-Force power pack and aircraft grade alloy frame, the Zero S features an industry leading power-to-weight ratio that increases its range and top speed.

Zero Motorcycle’s proprietary Z-Force™ 4kWh Li-Ion battery pack is capable of driving the Zero-S up to 60-miles between recharges and charging times of less than 4-hours.

The Bike

Aircraft grade aluminum is used in the construction of the lightweight and rigid Zero S twin spar frame. Designed to have a low center of gravity, the Zero S is highly maneuverable and responsive. The body is completed using custom injected molded plastics to give it aerodynamics and aggressive Supermoto styling.

Wayne-

Think the local Zero guy will have one for demos anytime soon?

I wonder how well it does regen, if at all?

How can I make this work, with solar power instead of plugging in? It would have to charge at work, during the day. The charging rig would have to be mobile.

Quick calculations - it would take 500w of solar panels to fully recharge this in an 8-hour day. For me, though, with a 20-mile round trip commute, it'd be 1/3 of that to top it off, or only 166w. That's still a lot.

Quick searching shows that a single 60x30 inch panel would serve the purpose. Not exactly practical to bring that along with you.

Never mind.

That is so tempting....but the range is just short of what I would need to commute to work...The round trip is about 60, so I'd want a 80+ mile range for those days where mileage wasn't as good, the battery didn't fully charge, or the battery has just degraded below the original spec.
However if that 60 mile range is based on how one typicly drives a bike, it could well have an 80+ mile range as is....yummy!

On the other hand, my wife and I carpool. If I take the bike, and she drives the car either to work or to the train station, I don't think there is much savings. Certainly not enough to justify the 10k price or the fight I'd have to have to get and ride a bike. Sigh....

I see some room for aerodynamic improvements that would extend the range.

AER is not 60 at 60. That is, the AER is likely less than 60 miles at 60 mph. Hypermiling would add a lot, but a 60 mile round trip implies highway speeds, which may subtract even more?

Tesla Roadster is known of getting close to 300 miles a charge.
So it should be fine.

Hi All:

___I spoke with Zero motocycles today to try and procure a Zero S for Hybridfest (Green Drive Expo). The California based rep Pamela tried but it was to short a notice. The local Chicago Zero Motorcycle reps were not answering their phones so I defaulted to Zero's HQ...

___If we have an event in the future, Zero Motorcycles will try and and accomodate us. They have three in a video shoot for a local TV station or movie??? and I believe this is what caused us to miss our chance :ccry:

___At least they tried so hopefully we will get our chance next time :)

___Good Luck

___Wayne

We already have an electric motorcycle owner coming to Hybridfest Green Drive Expo, and he'll be around all weekend long. Should be plenty of time to chat and get all the details.

It's an Electric Motorsport GPR-S

Range is 35-60 miles depending on your driving style.
