Seems like spin. -- Ed.

Ailing automaker Chrysler (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29958784/#) LLC said Monday it has agreed on the framework for a global alliance with Fiat SpA, but that there were still hurdles to a definitive pact with the Italian automaker.

The news came not long after President Barack Obama refused further long-term federal bailouts for General Motors Corp. and Chrysler LLC, saying more concessions were needed from unions, creditors and others before they could be approved. He raised the possibility of controlled bankruptcy for one or both of the beleaguered auto giants… http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29958784/

Um... Doesn't "FIAT" stand for "Fix it again, Tony"?

Umn, what exactly is an "alliance"? And even more intangible, what's a "framework for an alliance"?? Cerberus still owns 80.1% of the stock, and have said they won't put one more dime out to support Chry-co. Meanwhile, Cry-co represents something like only 7% of Cerberus holdings, so they seem to be in the catbird seat.

Cry-co don't need an "alliance"; they need transplant surgery to remove Cerberus from the equation. AKA bankruptcy.

(And if the union doesn't wake up to how close they are to the cliff, it may still be too late to make a difference)

Cerberus engaged a titanic almost in the iceberg. They have had some plans for the future, but it doesn't seem cerberus had enough time to act. They have all knowledge of the future of chrysler, but if they wont invest, this doesn't make sense for any one else to. If you cannot believe in your own product, who will?

As of Tuesday, 31 Mar, the Hamilton Spectator reports "The demand for more labour concessions was sharply rejected by leaders of the Canadian Auto Workers, who said the union had already done its part".

The Canadian government had promised to match 20% of the US funding (in proportion to the jobs market), so we are at a serious state of affairs here, that might just tip the balance so the whole mess goes over the cliff. Bankruptcy looks more and more inevitable.

How sad.
