Gasoline was selling for $2.03 a gallon Wednesday at some stations in Oskaloosa, bringing smiles to customers’ faces and catching the eye of national media as one of the low price spots in the country.
“I just got a call from CBS in New York,” said Tiffany Stansbeary, a cashier at the Murphy USA station in town.
Iowa prices near $2 also were the lead headline on the Drudge Report, a Web site better known for political gossip.
GasBuddy.com, a Web site where motorists post prices, showed that among metro areas in the country, Des Moines had the lowest average price at $2.18 a gallon.
Iowa’s average price, $2.317 a gallon, ranked third among the 50 states. Missouri and Ohio were tied for lowest at $2.262 a gallon.
Customers were happy Tuesday at the Murphy station in Oskaloosa, where unleaded regular was selling for $2.03 a gallon.
“They’re loving it,” said Stansbeary.
