The Hummer lust of recent has gone impotent - what hubris. -- Ed.
Detroit - By Tuesday, General Motors Corp. will have to decide whether its struggling Hummer brand will die a quiet death or live on with a new owner.
The wounded automaker has told the federal government that it will make the decision to jettison or sell Hummer by the end of the first quarter as part of a plan to justify the government loans on which it is living.
GM says it's still talking to several possible buyers, and many of Hummer's dealers nationwide are hoping that someone, perhaps a Chinese automaker, will come to their rescue and buy the brand, which traces its roots to rugged vehicles used for transporting soldiers.… http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5iJhW9nmAdsysWrhQPoxPy2IH7LjQD977RL1G0
Elixer 03-30-2009, 12:39 AM may I be the first to say: let it die, let it die, let it die!
jenriquez 03-30-2009, 01:02 AM Good riddance, the fact that this was a gas guzzler AND it still couldn't actually handle off roading, like say a Jeep, made this nothing more than an egotistical statement.
drummerboy2004 03-30-2009, 01:42 AM First the housing market hits the dumps... now the housing-on-wheels market!
Let me be the third to say bye bye to this piece of junk...
Just give it time too, and these will not be "hip" to any crowd... or at least I hope so
Indigo 03-30-2009, 05:35 AM But if Hummers stop being made, what are angry, middle-aged bullies with really tiny male reproductive parts going to drive?!

Escalade.

Indigo 03-30-2009, 08:51 AM Escalade.
Yeah... and probably the utterly useless Escalade truck version with the itty bitty cargo bed and the ultra-extended cab. that way they can still be overcompensating bullies but not be able to haul anything. Ha ha ha ha!

Not all that long ago (some time last year when I wasn't hypermiling)...
That Escalade truck was the only super-short bed truck that I actually liked the looks of.
Not saying it's practical. When I got my Ram I was looking at practical and really wanted the full-sized bed for hauling stuff.

Having lived out of my car for two weeks, I can relate. The back of a car is actually not that bad of a place to sleep, also naps under trees can be absolutely amazing in the afternoon. When I was living like that I would sleep on my friend's couch or go couchsurfing (http://www.couchsurfing.com). Then I would shower at the University and grab lunch at a cheap Mexican place. The reason I ended up in that situation was this summer I was in Russia and I wasn't able to find a place while in Russia, so once I got back, I was homeless. I think it's a great experience to have, but only for a couple of weeks to a month. It was a interesting experience as every time I found a place to sleep that wasn't the back of my car was like a little victory for the day. So yeah, let's start an add campaign: "Hummers for the Homeless!"
egebhardt 03-31-2009, 03:01 PM I thought the Hummer would have been dead a long time ago. That just shows you how much wealth there is in the auto industry.
SentraSE-R 04-01-2009, 01:23 PM Well, Tuesday has come and gone, but no announcement from GM. It was supposed to announce the Hummer's fate by the end of the quarter, which ended yesterday.

Just like them to be behind the ball on just about everything...
