some ramblings about light rail.....
Just got back from 3 days in Chicago. We flew in and used public transit.
Lots of light rail usage and 1 bus trip. (i hate bus's)
we put roughly 60 train miles on, it worked great.
No traffic worries, no parking worries, no stress trying to drive in a new area, no fights with my wife over directions, it was just plain easy.
I did note handicap access would be an issue. most of the rail lines must have been put in before any handicap access building codes, (assuming Chicago has handicap access building codes)
As much as I liked the rail system in Chicago... Most of what I could see for urban area around the rail did not look like someplace I would want to live.
We have 1 light rail line here in Minnesota, in Minneapolis. I have used it on a number of trips to down town. it's surprising how often it standing room only. Going to baseball games i have seen trains packed to the point they can not get everyone on.
I look forward to getting more light rail here...
