View Full Version : Safety for everyone lol
pcs0snq 03-21-2009, 09:05 AM When I bought my Fit I was impressed how all the safety equipment was included and Honda PR boasted this was "Safety for everyone". For me I was looking at the better FE performer the Yaris and saw you had to pay more for side air bags.
Well it took 1 year for Honda to go back to Safety for those than can afford it. Looking at the Insight, you have to add $1.500 to and get into the EX model from the base LX offer to have the best protection:
1) Turn Signal Outside Mirrors
2) VSA

Yes I'm complaining about Honda.
Unrelated but still PO that the base LX lacks cruse control.
The published price is a MSRP so in a month or so we will see what the Supply and Demand rule forces Honda's actual sell price to be.
I'd spring for a EX if it was less than $20k
Hi Paul:
___I agree with you in many respects but the 2010 Insight-II LX does include side curtains for the rear passengers.
___Lack of CC and an arm rest while charging $1,500 for VSA (< $100 in parts) is not a good thing. There are other items the EX includes like alloy wheels, an upgraded six speaker audi system, the USB audio interface plus heated side mirrors to add to your list but not $1,500 worth :( It is a marketing decision for profit and afterall, that is what Honda is in business for...

pcs0snq 03-21-2009, 10:03 AM Ops I went back after reading your note, Wayne and see as you said they are standard. Too early would of bet I read that now it's in the list.
Sorry for the confusion.
Still the Turn arrow mirrors and VSA are to my point.
I also missed the wheels and was looking for that.
I had the same call on the Fit and concluded the $1,500 (none of which was safety) on the Fit was worth it. If I get and Insight, now considering it all it's a must have list of stuff.. but not the Nav unit. I also had to buy a decent center Arm rest as Honda did not offer that at all.
I'm still a little optimistic the EX will sell for under $20k????
pcs0snq 03-21-2009, 10:13 AM Honda sight and spec seems to lack some details. From the TUV here's the list of what $1,500(MSRP) gets the buyers. This is off topic but just wanted to clarify that
The EX model adds:
a multi-information-display,
15" alloy wheels,
VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist),
a special "7-speed" sport mode for the CVT,
an upgraded stereo with USB ipod connectivity and a set of tweeters,
turn signals on the wing mirrors,
heated exterior mirrors,
cruise control,
center console storage/armrest,
vanity mirrors,
variable intermittent wipers,
map and glovebox lights, and
seatback pockets.
ksstathead 03-21-2009, 10:28 AM ala carte would be nice, but honda's with/without one package approach makes buying and selling easy, and likely keeps their inventory and production costs down, and quality up. I'll probably bite the EX bullet if I go Insight II.
Hi Paul:

Harold 03-21-2009, 11:04 AM It is hard for Honda to sit back and watch buyer's go across the road and purchase a Yaris like they have over the past 5 years or so. Most people look at the bottom line. Most don't care about all that stuff that may save thier life! Hal
Hi Harold:
___Although the Yaris pales in comparison to the Fit regarding Fit/Finish/Quality of materials and components, for 09, all Yaris' come std. with Front, Side and Side curtains. And of course for a lot less money!
___I would purchase a Yaris 3-door w/ a stick over a Fit for the $, FE and TCO reasons but I also know a "Yaris aint no Fit". Brand new but almost stripped 09 Yaris' w/ A/C and a stick are going out the door for $11.5K in the Chicago right now!

And not a single Yaris comes with VSC/TRAC (Toyota's TLA's for VSA). Standard or Optional.
(And in Canada, side curtain airbags are still optional on the Yaris.)
I don't mind the constant Honda bashing and the repeated Toyota boosterism most of the time, but sheesh.

Hi Mr. Bill:
___Do you have any idea as to what I own and drive??? Secondly, read your quote again.
___And the above includes TCO.
