View Full Version : Are Driving Schools Doing Their Job?

At the gym last night, I ran across a driving instructor. Instead of getting her blood pressure down working out, she was in the pool area ranting about a number of things - she was taking a chance of getting a stroke. :D

Anyway, her contention is driving schools (at least in Texas) is a joke. I have no idea what they teach or how long students are required to attend, etc. Part of the problem on the roadways is it may be too easy for a 16 year old to get a license.

Any thoughts?

I agree, Flyer. Many times in my area, Driver's Education is a high school course lasting 2 months. Some students enroll just to get an easy credit, or time away from the usual dull classes. It is kind of a joke; however I think with a quality, passionate instructor, it could be very good training. Some kids take the course simply because it's the quickest way to fulfill the minimum requirement for a drivers license. Billy.....

How about European style schools with extremely difficult testing lasting months and months and fees in the thousands of dollars? Maybe it would keep some of the bad drivers off the road.

I'd support it. Maybe this could be a penality for reckless drivers - a German style course everytime they get get busted.
