To the other Ranger drivers out there:
What tires are you using and what pressure are you running?
I'm currently running some Continental passenger tires at 44 psi.
Hi Taliesin:
___OEM 225/70 R15 Continental Contitrak’s at 55 to 60 psi.
___I hope that helps?

That's perfect. :D
Pretty sure those are the same tires (if not, pretty darned close).
I just wanted to make sure that the truck wouldn't have a problem with "over"inflation.
I know we have talked and discussed (and pretty much proven) about cars, but the few instances we have heard of about strange wear was in larger vehicles. I wasn't sure if the Ranger would be big enough to have a problem, but better safe than sorry.
Thanks!

Hi Taliesin:
I have 1 pair Winter Master Plus and 1 pair Epic Plus Multi Mile. Both are size 215/70/14. I
keep all tires at 36 psi. Lately I noticed they are wearing faster in the center. But then I
have used them for 4 or 5 winters.
I think they are wearing faster because they are snow treads. I bought them used at the
local "get it yourself" style auto yard for $15. ea.

TorqueNada has Michelin LE tires with a sidewall rating at 35psi, which I've been running at 60psi front, 55psi rear for more than a year, with minimal wear.

My '96 has stock size 225/70R14. Currently some worn out off-brand "performance" tire in front and the stock Firestones in the rear. Both are inflated to 45psi. I do notice that punctures are more common with higher pressures but wear is low.
The rears tend to wear in the middle a little more but the fronts wear on the sides a little more. All evens out in the end. I guess that's a case for rotating tires!

hmmmm i was going to start a thread with the same questions.
I run really high pressures in my car and van, but i was wondering if I should in the ranger because of the more stiff suspension, etc..

Ok a newbie here and a quick question that I have searched for and have not found answered anywhere here. I have an 04 5 spd. 4 cyl. Ranger with 225 70 15 tires and 44 psig.. With moderate practice I achive 28 mpg. pretty regularly. Its time for new tires and I am considering larger tires maybe a 225 75 series. According to specifications this change would lower my rpm at 55 mph by by 100 rpm, Nowhere on this site have I found any discussions on changing tire sizes from OEM. One tire dealer that I talked to told me it would be a mistake because he did it on the same vehicle and tire and his mileage dropped 9 mpg and he had to sell the truck. Didnt sound real rational to me , why sell the truck , why not sell the tires. Anyhow any input from anyone with prior experience in this area would be appreciated.
Hi Boopuppy:
___You can change the ratio with a taller or shorter tire and the effects can be both positive or negative depending on what you are looking for. If the weight is the same or less for the taller tire, you have increased the final drive and should get an increase but your aero drag will increase slightly as well with the increased frontal area. If the tires are heavier, this could be bad as any accel will cause in an inordinate amount of additional energy to be consumed to get them up to speed.
___I believe Billy swapped to taller but thinner tires for the taller ratio and they were just as light so he gained a ton. Adding a tonneu cover helped him with this Ranger as well.
___Good Luck
