I took my HCH2 for a short vacation trip, only 75 miles each way, but mostly on the interstate going 68-73mph with cruise control, A/C set at 76 (it was hot that day!) luggage and stuff in the trunk and back seat, an adult passenger, and two bicycles strapped onto the rear bumper. I started out on the first leg and got 46 mpg, but then my buddy took over the driving, used the CC and I just watched the mpg go down. The average for the round trip was 40.7 mpg. Considering that's better than most cars on their best day, I'm pretty happy about that. It took me the remainder of the tank to bring the average mpg back up to a respectable 50.7 on the display. It certainly was a strange experience to drive the HCH2 in "vacation mode", I was concerned about the trunk lid and the bumper being able to handle the stress of the bike rack, but it handled the load well and was able to maintain speed going over the hills of western CT. It's good to be home again!
