Admittedly, I was a bit shocked at how the article was received. So in an effort to offer another side of the story, let's take a closer look at what Ford (NYSE:F) is offering for fuel-conscious consumers in the future.
On January 11, Ford announced a new electrification strategy involving three types of vehicles:
Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV)
Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV)
Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV)
The 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid falls into the HEV category. The vehicle boasts a 41 mpg fuel economy, and can drive in all-electric mode up to 47 miles per hour. That 47 mph is certainly more impressive than pretty much anything else we've seen on the road.
I suspect many of you are also familiar with the Ford Escape Hybrid. This hybrid SUV delivers 34 mpg city/ 31 mpg highway. For an SUV currently on the road, no other major automaker has delivered this kind of fuel economy.
