I was fortunate enough to get a GREAT presentation on the differences between the Synergy Drive and the IMA at HybridFest 2007. I am confused now that someone over at MotorTrend (Edward Loh) has seemingly said that the Insight-II can be drive SOLELY on battery similar to Synergy Drive???
"...All I can hear is the quiet hum of the tires as I try to keep my speedo green and the gas engine from firing up..."

Hi skider86:
Yes, it will be able to drive "solely" on battery but definitely NOT similar to Toyota's HSD.
Frankly, such abilities should be nothing more than technical footnotes since driving on battery alone is one of the worst things you can do to your fuel economy and hence frequently discouraged in our circles. ;)

Wonderful info!
I had a Great chance to drive a Prius a while back.
Now knowing and having some experience with a Hybrid I can understand the points in your (Wonderful!) FAQ.
Question: Is it possible as I found in the Prius to induce a Glide? No power from the ICE or the electric motor?
Thanks

Yep. Pretty much the same way. Tarabell's article (http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1306) details the instrumented procedure with good detail.

Yeah, glide is pretty much the only technique that requires no re-adjustment from HSD to IMA for a driver skilled with HSD driver but a novice at IMA. Now I'm what I'd consider average with IMA (only took 5 months).
