Keep an eye on this company; they may grow to be a key manufacturer in the next decade. --Ed.

It’s been a grueling year for Tesla Motors. The company angered many of its employees last year when it laid off nearly its entire Michigan staff, which first found out they were losing their jobs not from the Tesla itself, but by a posting on a financial blog. Later in the year, Tesla seemed poised to make a comeback, announcing its sporty new Tesla Roadster Sport electric vehicle, available for those who preordered the Roadster. However, it then proceeded to anger customers who preordered by raising the price on the base Roadster model.

However, despite its trials and tribulations, the fledgling company says it will be sold out of Roadsters until around November and that by the middle of the year it should finally be posting profits. Founder and Chief Executive Elon Musk, who became a billionaire by founding PayPal, also announced that… http://www.dailytech.com/Tesla+Says+It+Will+Finally+Be+Profitable+By+Mid2009/article14249c.htm

The idea: use the first half of this video, but sub a Tesla on Hwy 101 in Northern California, still playing Darude's trance hit I can feel the Beat.

Good for them, but I'm still not very happy that they're getting a bailout loan from my tax dollars to do it.

It doesn't bother me that my tax dollars are going to companies like Tesla. It's my dollars going to GM and Chrysler that bothers me. They have been told and told that fuel efficiency needs to be pushed to the front in design considerations instead of the back like they have for years. Ford did start their commitment a few years ago when they introduced the Escape/Mariner hybrid.

Companies like Tesla and Fisker are moving into new technologies that can help the world fuel consumption.

I'd rather my tax dollars go there than go to Chrysler. Besides, 350 million is pocket change compared to the billions going to Detroit.

And the billions going to Detroit are pocket change compared to the trillion that's gone to this whole economic bailout.

When we were in Detroit, the lady we talked to at Tesla said that this money is critical in getting the 4 door line going.

I sincerely hope that they manage to get the model S out and that it is a resounding success... so that they can follow up with a sedan around $30K (instead of the projected $57.5K for the first sedan)... which is something I could possibly afford. :D

It bothers me that the federal government believes it has the knowledge and wisdom to choose winners in the marketplace. And if I believed Tesla was a good investment, I'd invest in it myself. And right now, there's plenty of people out there who might prefer to have some money to spend on food and shelter, and not invest in a company that makes sports cars with electric motors and apparently hasn't yet been profitable.

(Don't get me wrong - I DO love the concept of the Tesla, and hope other manufacturers head that way, too. I am just sick of this alleged bailout.)
