2011 Chevrolet Volt -- America’s hope.

Chicago - When the Chevrolet Volt debuts late next year, advanced, fuel-efficient all-season tires by Goodyear will help the Volt to achieve its stated goal of 40 miles of all-electric range (AER). The test conditions included driving from a fully charged battery to a fully discharged one when compared to other tires of a similar performance level.

Goodyear will soon be offering the Assurance Max advanced technology tire to all drivers, not just those that will be driving the upcoming Volt, for an opportunity to save at the pump. In the case of the 2011 Chevrolet Volt, the additional mile AER may keep its drivers from having to drive to the pump ever!

Compared to the original Goodyear Assurance tire, the newly announced Assurance Fuel Max provides 27 percent less rolling resistance, which equates to a 4 percent improvement in highway fuel economy. In essence, this greater fuel efficiency means drivers can potentially save 2,600 miles worth of gas over the life of the tire on a conventional vehicle.

The force required to keep a tire moving at a constant speed is known as rolling resistance. The Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max all-season tires on the Chevrolet Volt use Goodyear's most advanced current rolling resistance criteria, and represent the next generation of fuel-efficient tire technology. A special energy-saving tread compound helps reduce energy loss, so less effort is required to keep the tires rolling.

“In addition to low rolling resistance, Goodyear has packed performance features into the tire to enhance the Volt's fun-to-drive characteristics,” said Frank Weber, vehicle line executive, Voltec propulsion system and Chevrolet Volt.

"In response to today's economic environment and uncertain gas prices, drivers everywhere are trying to use less gas. It's all part of a larger consumer trend toward spending money more wisely," said Joey Viselli, Goodyear brand director. "With Fuel Max Technology being used on the 2011 Chevrolet Volt, Goodyear is working with General Motors to offer a fuel-efficient solution, with great wet and dry traction."

Another Volt efficiency advance

The Volt will debut Bose's Energy Efficient Series sound system, delivering the clarity, accuracy and dynamic range that high-quality audio buyers expect.

The BoseŽ Energy Efficient sound system is 30 percent smaller, 40 percent lighter, and uses 50 percent less energy than a conventional Bose sound system. Under certain listening and driving conditions, this energy savings results in increased all-electric drive capability equivalent to removing up to 50 pounds of mass from the Volt.

"Everything we do with the Volt is about maximizing its mechanical, electrical and thermal efficiency. From the Voltec™ propulsion system down to individual components such as tires or sound systems, we have been analyzing every part of the Volt so that we can offer a vehicle that is as efficient as possible to maximize the electric range. I think we have achieved this with Bose and Goodyear," said Frank Weber.

Is it safe to assume that these are better than the Integrity for rr? Any word on pricing yet?

Ooooh! I likey. Available in the Odyssey's 225-60-16 size. Now, how do these compare to the upcoming Bridgestone Ecopia tires? Unlikely we'll be able to know.
