Few products have had such an outside impact on the auto industry like the Toyota Prius, the Japanese automaker’s first -- and most readily identifiable -- hybrid-electric vehicle, or HEV.
Little more than an asterisk on the sales charts when it launched at the beginning of the decade, Prius has risen to become Toyota’s third-best-selling model here in the States, ushering in an array of additional HEVs in the process.
For 2010, Toyota will weigh in with a new, third-generation hybrid that the company claims will improve performance and fuel economy, while offering an assortment of new features -- along with an updated yet still distinctive hatchback design.
