Well I did it! I went to the dealer today with my 2007 FEH intending to get an oil change, and came home with new 2009 FEH Limited! Pretty much loaded, except for the NAV.

I couldn't believe it, they had 16 FEH's on the lot. Several of them (including mine) had come from a dealer in California. My dealer is in Liberty, MO less then 5 miles from the Ford plant where it was built. So this one really took the long way home.

I've only put 30-40 miles on it since this afternoon, but I am already amazed at how easily it drops in to EV! Any time you take your foot of the pedal under 40mph it goes EV with no effort. No double tap or L needed. My first trip home was just over 40mpg on the dash (about 15 miles). Not too bad in 45 degree temps. It's supposed to be almost 70 degrees the next 2 days so we'll see how things go.

Hi Rick:

___Congrats and it sounds like you are going to enjoy your new 09 far more than the 07 given the engine, motor and programming upgrades.

___What kind of deal did you get on the trade and subsequent purchase if you would not mind me asking?

___Good Luck

Congratulations Rick! That is great news for you.

It makes me quite envious to struggle and work so hard to go EV in these frigid temps when I see you and GaryG going so easily now! I hope we get some of that warm weather that you are getting too.

Jealous, but glad for you,
- Rob

$30,600 on the new FEH, x-plan. It's a Limited with pretty much everything but the NAV: MS Sync, Moonroof, keyless entry ...

Only got 16,000 for the '07. Not sure how good that was as this was kind of an implulse (didn't have time to research). I really did just go in for the oil change! :)

Edmunds.com's TMV for an '07 Escape Hybrid FWD, zip code 64101 (Kansas City, MO), 30k miles, no options clicked, average condition, shows a trade-in value of $12888, privat party sale 14,348, dealer retail 15,485. Lower miles, lots of options, better than average condition, or AWD would run that number higher.
http://www.edmunds.com/used/2007/ford/escapehybrid/100726884/options.html?tmvaction=vdpresult
...shows trade-in roughly $15k. And it doesn't sound like the price paid for the new one is out of range either, so they didn't overshoot on the trade and push the contract price higher. Based on those numbers, I'd say you caught the dealer on a good day! Congratulations and be sure to keep us all posted on how well the '09s do on FE.

Thanks for the info. I feel pretty good about it and stepped up to the Limited package as well.

I finally got over 40mpg on my fillup yesterday: 42.2mpg over 381 miles (220 MTE)!! I filled a little early because I was on the way to get the MS Sync 911 upgrade at my dealer and I new I had a pretty good tank going. The FEH is a little under 9,000 miles now.

Temps have been unusually cool (only one day over 90 in the last couple of weeks) so I haven't been running the A/C much. Not sure I'll be able to keep over 40 when things finally heat up, but fall is not too far away!

Nice!! Normally warm weather means good MPG, but if it's too warm, the AC kills it.

I was driving a moving truck today and my wife took the Escape. I told her to go easy
and try to hypermile a little.. But, it was so hot after about 10 AM, the AC was never off.
My average for this tank so far is only 20.6 MPG.. :(

I'm seeing a 5mpg drop on my SGII Instant MPG when the compressor is running to cool the battery. The good news is I'm at 408 miles on the present tank and so far have a 52mpg average. When things cool off here my mileage should skyrocket to the mid 50's even with E10. The '09 FEHL has sure been everything I could hope for and has not been in for warranty work at all. I just completed a full year of ownership with 12,833 miles and have a great Lifetime MPG average that gets better every tank. I'm hoping to have a 52LMPG average this time next year which will put me at 160% of combined EPA.

Wow! You FEH guys got it made in the shade! 2009 seems to be a very fine vintage too!

I was this close to joining the hybrid club, but I chickened out. Just don't drive enough.
But, I love the idea of figuring out how to get good FE. It's like a hobby thing with me.
One of these days, I'll likely start adding grill blocks & Aero mods to this car too.
But mostly just because it's interesting to see what can be done.

I'm already selling my wife on the idea of a FFH when the old Corolla gets unreliable..
But, that might be a while.. :(

We just completed a new record tank: 44.5mpg over 518 miles. I'm having a lot of success with the brake tap when SoC is under 46 or 47. I'm able to glide on the highway any time which helps a lot with the rolling hills we have here. Up to 9500 miles on the car now.

Temps have still been in the 70's and 80's until today. It's back to summer now (90s the rest of the week).

Thanks!

Wow that is close (had to google maps the city because I had not heard of it). I'm north of KC between Smithville and Kearney. I have a ~30 mile commute each way into KC everyday to work.

Impressive numbers on the Ranger!
