Euro 1, 2 and 3 certified vehicles can be upgraded with a diesel particulate filter (DPF) to lower emissions AND toll costs. (cleanmpg.com)

A truck upgrade that reduces emissions and costs? Who would have thought :)
It is now possible to retrofit older and far dirtier Mercedes-Benz trucks with a DPF. All Mercedes-Benz Service partners are able to retrofit Mercedes-Benz trucks that are rated Euro 1, 2 and 3 with a new particulate filter from PURI tech. This "closed-loop" DPF reduces particulate levels by more than 99-percent.
One the retrofit has been completed, the truck is placed in the next higher toll classification (exceptions include Euro 1) and qualifies for the “Green” environmental sticker. This allows the retrofitted trucks free access to environmental zones they were restricted from previously. Retrofitting however does not change the emissions classification of the engine.
A warranty covering the retrofitted diesel particulate filter is provided by PURI tech via the relevant Mercedes-Benz Service partner.
Lower emissions means lower tolls
New toll regulations provide for significantly lower toll charge for heavy commercial vehicles with a retrofitted DPF.
On a dollar and cents basis, DPF retrofitted Euro 2 and 3 trucks save 8.4 cents and 2.1 cents respectively per chargeable km. Starting in 2011 the latter figure will increase to 4.2 cents/km. Assuming an annual miles traveled of 90,000 miles, the cost of the DPF retrofit can be recovered in as little as 6 months for a Euro 2 rated truck, and 18 months for a Euro 3.
The DPF is the perfect solution for existing Euro 1, 2 and 3 vehicles as it helps reduce harmful local smog-forming and asthma-aggravating local emissions while saving $$ in the process.
