The family and I took a trip to FL to see my parents.

6 people: 2 adults, 4 kids ages 8, 6, 4 and 4 months.

2100 miles and only 75 gallons of fuel.

I was not really trying for FE. Ended up 29 MPG.

I drove through driving rain for much of the trip. Sometimes so heavy in the middle of the night that the car would hydroplane above 60 MPH. I wasn't the fastest car on the highway, but I was over the speed limit.

I used about half the fuel of my previous vehicle. Details in my fuel log in the middle-late December area.

12,200 people miles on 75 gallons of gasoline! That's hypermiling ;) Congratulations. It sounds like tremendous mileage, although I'd happily forgo the hydroplaning.

How did you handle cargo for that many people? The Mazda5 doesn't have much space when it's filled like that.

Even though you didn't really try, good job anyway. If I needed a mini-minivan, that's the one I'd get, but with a manual.
