View Full Version : Why are fans so hard on Donnvan McNabb?

Scenerio: Eagles beat the Steelers in Super Bowl 43.

As Donnvan McNabb is announced MVP, before a billion viewers, he tells Philly fans: "This is for you" and the network frantically attempt to censor the birdie.

McNabb is a darn good quarterback. Yes, he has had bad days, but there is something about Philly fans - they get harder on their own almost as if it was an arch-rival. I could understand if McNabb did something like what I described in the Super Bowl.

I lived near Philly for almost a year and my wife grew up there. The fans are just a different kind of people. They threw snow balls at Santa after all.

But it is interesting ... The other two big name QBs, Ron Jaworski and Randall Cunningham, never seemed to have as much trouble with the home town fans as McNabb has  It is unfortunate for Donovan. I would gladly take him on my Raiders.

Forgot about the snowballs at Santa.

Do the fans think about how they could run off free agents?

I would guess that they consider it a form of tough love. My son is a big Eagles fan, but unlike the home town fans, he thinks Donovan is great! I suspect that there are many Eagles fans who do appreciate Donovan, but we only see and hear the negatives ones.

Heck, McNabb had a better year than Brett Favre (http://www.cheappremiumtickets.com/articles/412.cfm) - get out your popcorn! :p

Lessee...in Philly:
- They cheered when Michael Irvin sustained a career-ending injury. (Granted it was good that he was out, but don't cheer for something like that...)
- The old Veterans Stadium had makeshift holding cells and a magistrate on-site during games. (I understand but cannot confirm that The Linc also has actual holding cells BUILT IN, but are no longer in use.)
- The Sixers fans booed hometowner Kobe Bryant....and that was BEFORE the rape case.
- Beer sales were banned at The Vet for TWO GAMES in 1989 after "Bounty Bowl II".
(On the other hand, the incident was against the Cowboys. Half-credit for that.)
- Hoagies and Cheesteaks, two venerable Philly cultural institutions, were banned from The Linc - though only for a week.

Jim's at 4th and South Streets is my personal favorite.

Back on topic ...
Donovan will be held in much higher esteem once he retires and someone else is the new QB.

Strange thing is happening at my home.

An internet friend on the Jersey side of Philladelphia has two cats and just lost her big one. It was a orange/white meatloaf named Trevor (but should have had her other cat's name Andy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Reid) :D )

Lately, I have an orange/white cat warming up to me when I have the Eagle playoffs on....yes he is starting to look like he ate a few cheesesteaks. :D

Monday Morning Quarterback: If I offered Trevor some of my cheesesteak, would the Iggles have won? :D
