Audi has finally confirmed what's been rumored since last fall's cross-country mileage marathon. The A3 TDI is indeed coming to America later this year. A pair of A3s were included in the marathon group and achieved mileage figures that regularly topped 50 mpg. The A3 will use the same 140 hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel current motivating the Volkswagen Jetta TDI (http://www.autoblog.com/tag/VolkswagenJettaTDI/). Getting 40 mpg or more with the A3 TDI shouldn't be difficult in normal driving, and adding the powerful and efficient diesel should help the slow-selling A3 get more of a foothold in the US market. well there's been alot of domand for diesel cars from all the german car makers. Its not much of a shocker to me. but its good there getting on it and get them out into the market

from what i have heard is that vw is going to stop producing a golf r32 and the new r verion which will be a scirocco R-LINE model.

I've heard a few reports that the MkVI Golf will be here in late 2009, with the 2.0 TDI coming a bit later. VW already sells a GTI 5-door here. That would probably do as much cannibilizing to the A3 2.0T as the Golf TDI would do to the A3 TDI.

Well crap, I guess anything is possible... It makes me sigh because now I have to save up some bucks...
