I keep hearing that bump-starting ruins the catalytic converter, but no ones seems to be able to provide any evidence for or contrary to this. The theory is that unburnt fuel gets in and eventually gets burned in the cat, but no one's said whether or not the their cat has had to be replaced because of this. So, to everyone who has a PZEV vehicle in California and FAS a lot, have you passed or failed your smog check? If you failed, did repairs get covered under warranty?

if that was the case, more CEL lights would be reported by cleanmpg users, misfires are a big no no when ODBII became the standard, i doubt firing the engine controlled by electronics will let a simple start up to cause a misfire or dumping raw fuel into the CAT.

Unburnt fuel gets burnt in the cat, that's what it's for. I"ve had numerous restarts with no problem whatsoever, no cel codes. I stopped utilizing fas for a while, and had to get a new computer because I fried my other. I got the new computer and had one code....then two codes, then three. The first one came within 50 miles of driving. 101 miles ago, I cleared the codes with the sg...they haven't been back since.
I'll go back to using FAS very soon, using switches. As for inspection, I had an inspection done in sept. and that was while used FAS heavily. NY emissions standards are extremely strict, so I know my car is in good shape. Note:IT is a california emissions car also.

Hi jhu:

___105K on the PZEV Accord and she has a lot o FAS's under her belt. Remember that you are shutting down as the tach is falling so the injectors should already be shut down vs. shutting down at the end of the day like most vehicles are shut down.

___Good Luck

BTW, at what point do you key off when FASing? I used to do it at idle, but now that you mentioned the fuel injectors cutting off while the rpms drop, I suppose I should key off then? I hope I haven't been pushing fuel through the cat this whole time.

This is really where a FAS switch comes in handy! I can only speak from my experience with a 2007 FIT, but I have to key off just as the tach is dropping through 1000 RPM. If I key off early I get an engine check light, telling me I left too much unburned fuel in the system, overloading the cat. If I time the cutoff just right, the engine check light stays off, telling me I was clean. If I key off late, after the tach "bounces" at 700 RPM, I again get the engine check light from the squirt of fuel that has been injected. If I am this late, I have to wait until the tach stabilizes at 700 RPM too keep the light off.

With the FAS switch, you can hit it when you start your glide, and the excess fuel will be burned off in the cylinders as the tach is revving down.

Fas switch FTW. It is the best mod I have. I used a couple home tools and have the perfect fas switch. I might upload the pictures tonight with some details.
