View Full Version : odd time for regen?

hello all,

here's a scenario that confuses me. I'm driving home from work; HCHII (08) is almost warm (above 130-140oF); I've got 6 bars of charge showing, and I start up an unavoidable long hill (1 mile). I'm maintaining a speed of ~28-30 mpg and trying to stay in a higher gear ratio to minimize assist (using short accelerator pulses, as previously suggested in other threads). I'm still getting used to my new ScanGauge, so I must confess that I'm not yet adept at tracking LOD (usually the curvy road is dark, and I need more eyes).

All of a sudden, I start getting 1 bar (sometimes 2) of regen! I depress the accelerator VERY gently to cancel it out, but 1 bar regen appears again; I can repeat this cycle several times before I can keep the regen off, but by that time I've increased my LOD and decreased my FE a bit.

This phenomenon may have been discussed before and I missed it, but this seems like a crazy time for the regen to kick in--adding load to the engine when it's already in a mode that would more likely evoke some assist. Can anyone offer me some insight? (about this issue, I mean!)
thanks

Philip

Are your headlights on? I get 1 bar forced charge regardless of SOC under low load conditions when I turn the headlights on. I think it's designed into the logic. Here's a great link that describes that, and some other non-intuitive behavior:

hmm, yes, my headlights are on these days; I hadn't tracked whether this only happens when they're on-- I'll check it out. And thanks for the tip on the previous thread- as I suspected, I'd missed the earlier discussion.

Funny, I think of that thread every time I see that 1 bar of regen pop up.

I've seen the same thing since the cold weather has set in. I am convinced that this is due to the car not reaching FULL operating temp.
