Ford claims the Fusion will get at least 39 mpg city/ 37 mpg highway when the EPA numbers are calculated in the coming weeks. Portalatin got 46 mpg on the first segment of the drive route and 43.5 mpg on the hillier second part. Among the journalists on hand, Car and Driver's Steve Siler recorded a 43.6 mpg result on the first part. After Drew Phillips and I switched places for the second segment, I achieved 43.1 mpg, which is a very impressive number for Ford's new mid-size sedan

Encouraging results -- especially considering how little these guys actually know about squeezing such a system for everything it is worth. :)

This may very well be the car I get my wife into. I hope I can afford it when the time comes...

I'd love to but there is no way I'll get her into something that small. I'm pretty sure she's going to insist the Insight II is way too small. :(

I believe that those numbers were achieved just by regular driving. I would assume that the editors did not do nascar driving. Those are preety impressive numbers for the car of that size.:) Now just imagine what would it be worth in hands of pros like Sean, Wayne and countless others who can easily achieve more than those numbers in a non hybrid mid size car. Say 60+ MPG..... anyone.
