This is an easy way to save. You save on gas by earning gas rewards as you shop for groceries, prescriptions and select gift cards thats it...no online codes no coupons just your store card with you when you make your purchases and than you save at the pump, more specifics here www.safeway.com/powerpump what do you think about this? Are you using this?

I hope more companies keep coming up with discounts like this to help consumers. We don't have any Safeway stations around here but Kroger gives discounts as well as another local grocery chain.

DW takes care of earning all these rewards for my household, so I don't follow the rules to earn, only to collect. Over the past few years, I have found Safeway gas prices to be erratic - sometimes very competitive, sometime not at all. When the nearest station was 4 miles away, I let half our awards expire. It was never worth traveling that far to collect them, and sometimes it wasn't even worth stopping while driving by because a Costco run was imminent, and cheaper. Since one was installed a few blocks away, I've used them all. The few times Safeway's award price was higher, Costco's price wasn't low enough to justify the distance.

Know your shopping schedules, distances, and cost per mile to get there. And check fuel prices online at places such as www.gaspricewatch.com or www.gasbuddy.com (or better yet, contribute to them). I'm sure there are more sites.

Also, if collecting separate credit card award points, watch the rules and exclusions closely. For example, Costco American Express cardholders can get 3% cash back on almost all gas purchases, including at non-Costco pumps -- but not at Safeway or Sam's Club pumps, and some other store chains not present here. I suspect that other chain's programs have similar restrictions.

Kroger does a deal like that here - buy XX amount of groceries, get xx discount on gas at their pump.

Double gas rewards for gift cards... bought $300 in struts on eBay... used eBay gift cards from Safeway... net: .60 off the 35 gallon maximum. 7% Savings. It all adds up i suppose

Kroger provides the discounts and its the first station I come across in the morning, so I almost always fill-up there. With the $.10 discount, it is the cheapest around as well.

I'm certain we pay much more in the grocery bill, but you have to make trade-offs.

I'm just S.O.L no Safeway or Kroger. I do use a Discove card that gives 5% discount on the first $100. in gas or automotive purchases each month.

You are right Ronbo. Through the holidays when you spend $100 on gift cards with your store card you'll earn twice the rewards. Plus your rewards add up you don't have to spend $100 in one transaction either. So multiple purchases add up. So its a great place to buy your gift cards this holiday :)

Several supermarkets do the same here in the UK, basically spend over £50 (approx. $70) in the shop and you'll get 5p off a litre of fuel - which may not sound like a huge amount but our fuel prices are currently approx. 88p for a litre of unleaded and 98p for a litre of diesel. - A huge drop from our all time summer high of £1.37 for a litre of diesel (Which was typical as I'd not long purchased my first diesel car!)
