View Full Version : Trade Tom Brady?

Last night I heard someone at ESPN talk about the dilemma the New England Patroits will have at the end of this season. The Salary Cap will take 28M between Tom Brady and Matt Cassell. Matt Cassell had played well, although nobody can be expected to fill in Brady's cleats entirely. Cassell had a couple of 400yrd games - which usually only the great ones do (but not always). He will be a free agent and will start from somebody.

One the other hand, Tom Brady is last year's MVP - only QB to throw 50 touchdown passes in a single regular season - has three Super Bowl rings and MVP in two of them. Now for the great unknown: his knee injury is about as severe as they come with damage to his ACL, MCL, and infection....four surgeries so far. He has not been working at rehab like he did earlier in his career...been in Spain with Gisele (kind of hard to resist ;) ).

So what do the Patroits do? Let Cassell go? Keep both quarterbacks, limiting the money for an aging team? Or....trade Brady to a team that badly needs a quarterback, and get a fist full of draft choices to rejuvinate the team?

I'm biased as a colts fan, but my opinion is that Brady never play again.

I doubt he would retire now, but he would be a cinch for the NFL Hall of Fame.

If Brady is healthy they will keep him. A lot of teams have great backup QBs, but the 28M is a large chunk for just two guys!

Yeah a few years after Peyton.

Peyton is also an automatic for the Hall of Fame. (1st year of eligilibity)

Maybe I better not remind you of your place kicker's past team - Adam V. :p

Brady and Cassell are products of a very good system. I don't think either one would/will do as well on any other team. So I think Belichick will keep the one with the lowest cap hit, which would be Cassell. Brady will probably fetch quite a few draft picks and other players. Belichick is not loyal to players, he is only about the next win and finding players that fit into his system.

As a Raiders fans first and a Colts fan second, I wish they would keep Brady, because I think he is "done" due to age and the knee injury, but I don't think they will.

Brady stepped up and took Bledsoe's spot when he got injured. I have a feeling history will repeat itself.

Any team interested in Brady better have conditions on his health. The hope would be he does for his next team like Brett Farve has the past five games with the Jets, but then he could be like Namath's last few years...

No way, Cassel is a great trade option and Brady is the franchise. Cassel got a great chance to start a career and get a great job with a big pay check as a full time starter somewhere this season. But Brady won't be traded.

I'll let you off easy on that one, so long as you promise to stay cool about the B12 championship/BCS selection process.:eyebrow:
