View Full Version : Truly Black Friday at one WalMart
Chuck 11-28-2008, 03:10 PM At one WalMart, customers literally took off the hinges off the doors, trampling a clerk to death and sending a pregant woman to the hospital (she and her baby should be fine) Read more (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27955316/)
I don't know if you can do anything, but wish there was...what's wrong with people? :(
TheForce 11-28-2008, 03:19 PM I think that security cameras should identify every one that pushed their way in and charge them with murder or something a little lighter than murder. Maybe not convict them but at least charge them with it. Stuff like that is uncalled for and the people responsible should be punished.
Chuck 11-28-2008, 03:24 PM I agree - if the ones responsible can be IDed, give them a day in court.
At the very least, the public will know some persons by name would literally kill for a bargain and live with that shame.
Should't the doors comming off have been a sign they needed to back off?
TheForce 11-28-2008, 03:37 PM If it was my store I would make them get in a single file line before the store opens. Failure to do so would mean no one would get in. Violators would be forced to leave and not return.
It should be just like when a new game console comes out. Go stand in a single file line days before the release. When the store opens on release day everyone waits their turn to get in.
93Hatch 11-28-2008, 04:13 PM WTH is wrong with people? It's just stuff!
Chuck 11-28-2008, 04:27 PM I see this as a deterioation of decency in our society. Unusual for a one to get fatally trampled at a store - not a rock concert.
For years, I've noticed at WalMart people mindlessly not paying attention and bumping into others.....this has migrated into the highways.
I think one of the first steps to hypermiling is being a courtous driver
diamondlarry 11-28-2008, 04:30 PM It seems to be a case of "It's all about ME!" that got horribly out of control. It also seems to be a mirror image of so many people's observations that drivers in that area are some of the worst in the country.:mad:
jsmithy 11-28-2008, 05:58 PM I thought this holiday season would reveal a trend, brought on by the economic crisis, of people moving away from the buying crap lifestyle. I guess I may be wrong.
This is a little prelude to what would happen if we had a real crisis in this country. These same type of people would come unglued, Mad Max style.
Meanshile, I'll pray for this Walmart clerk.
warthog1984 11-28-2008, 06:35 PM Not only did they trample this guy to death, when the store inform people that everyone needed to leave because someone had been KILLED, the shoppers said they had been in line since yesterday, and they intended to SHOP.
:eyebrow:
JusBringIt 11-28-2008, 08:51 PM Happened last year, and will probably happen next year. Security from the outside is in order. Adults acting worse than a 2 yr old that got his/her candy taken away by a mean old man. It's disgusting. It is this same attitude as chuck mentions, that you see on our roads everyday. Don't get me wrong, sometimes people can get excited, it's only human. There is still no excuse for such a piggish behavior. Majority of people are responsible, but Wal-mart could have taken a bit more of a regulatory role.
Awesome, shopping is now more dangerous per black friday than shark attack and lightning combined.
WriConsult 11-29-2008, 01:56 AM Sadly not the first time this has happened, and I agree now that there's a pattern developing I think it's time Walmart (and others, but especially Walmart) need to take some more initiative to reduce the risk of this happening.

Chuck 11-29-2008, 12:22 PM Kimberly Cribbs, who witnessed the stampede, said shoppers were acting like "savages."
"When they were saying they had to leave, that an employee got killed, people were yelling `I've been on line since yesterday morning,'" she said. "They kept shopping."
MaxxMPG 11-29-2008, 01:18 PM The store where the incident happened is in the southwest corner of Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream, NY. Most recent time I shopped in that store was early last December - late on a weeknight. The only reason I went to that specific store was that I needed a TV stand that was only in stock in that store. When I went, it was desolate (high local crime rate means nobody goes there during after-dinner hours unless they're armed or very large). The store looked like a tornado rolled through, but I bought what I needed and everything worked out fine. I would never go there on a big shopping day. It's not wise to burn through half a tank just to save $3 on some trinket.
Anyone familiar with the area will tell you it's a zoo. There are only a few roads in/out of the mall, the lights are poorly timed, and they dump you out onto secondary roads or Sunrise Highway, which itself is usually gridlocked. The overall layout of the mall parking is a nightmare, with the need to travel long distances to reach an entrance to a block of parking spaces. I have seen 4x4 drivers run right over the curb and into an open spot rather than waiting 20 minutes to inch up to the entrance to the area. And imagine frustration levels when the spot someone has been waiting 30 minutes to reach has just been taken by someone who drove over the curb.
The real victim of the incident is the worker who was just there trying to earn a paycheck. Any customers take their life in their own hands shopping at that location. Everyone in the area knows what that mall is like on big-shopping days, and they accept the risks to life/limb/fender when they decide to shop there.
Chuck 11-30-2008, 07:25 PM Check out the door.
Wal-Mart death preventable, union says (http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/11/29/black.friday.death/index.html)
Texashchman 11-30-2008, 09:26 PM I've said it before and I'll say it again, The more people I meet the more I love my dog! I'm glad we're moving to the sticks. I read about this yesterday and it just makes me so mad about our society. kevin
Chuck 11-30-2008, 09:27 PM Agreed ...
