It was about 2pm Friday, July 21on I40 in Memphis. I was taking the "scenic route" from Dallas to Chicago, swinging by Memphis just to say I went into Tennessee. Immediately took the bridge over the Mississippi back to Arkansas.

Five miles into Arkansas, I turned northbound to I55 - clearly out of the Greater Memphis area, but traffic was gridlocked in the country. It slowly dawned that there had to be an accident - and it was bad.

The nicest way I can put it is I hope the trucker was pulled out immediately after the crash. The cab and trailer were so burned nobody could have survived.

Sadly, here in Memphis, when the local news comes on with a "Breaking News Alert", we pretty much know either somebody got shot or there is a bad wreck on the interstate that is backing up traffic for miles. Seems like one or the other happens at least 2-3 times a week!

NOT trying to be funny about any bad wreck, but this morning Dallas had a lot of them.

One of them was a crash-and-burn in Mesquite, Texas (not kidding).

Love the title and the Mesquite reference. The blacker the humor the more you know it really hurts, I say.
