Hi all --
I just made a post, so I figured I'd officially introduce myself. I've been a member at GasSavers.org for about a year, and found this site with some interesting, different info. I've been using the RSS/XML ticker to see headlines here to read, and finally found one to respond to (the rock chip incident).
I travel extensively for my job, and rent many different cars. My primary contribution to GasSavers is a vehicle review section where the rental cars are hooked-up to a ScanGuage, driven as the average driver would, and compare the results to EPA estimates. For flair, I've added my own commentary on the driving experience.
I'm a recovering speed addict (velocity, not meth) and gave up an Evo-8 for a used TL. Being married to an automatic-only spouse, that limits vehicle purchases for now ;) The TL recently gave it up due to some accidental off-roading, so we ended up with an '06 Acura TSX. I get to choose the next car, and it will be a clean-diesel based vehicle, perhaps a diesel-electric hybrid if the technology progresses. My personal belief is that Ethanol and similar style blends are a good start, but we have an infrastructure for diesel pipeline transport, it produces more power per combustion, and when equipped to meet 2007 EPA guidelines, minimal emissions, and bio-diesel capability.
In the meantime, I inherited a '98 Acura Integra LS Automatic that I was able to Hypermile before the A/C season started, using coasting and mods. It has about 120K miles, HAI, hotter 'stat, over-inflated tires, EBH, and modified driving habits. I look forward to sharing ideas here at CleanMPG. Thanks!
