I was driving home from a diving trip on Sunday when a passing truck launched a rock into my windshield. Cracked. It'll only cost me $100 since I'm making an insurance claim. But geez it's only an 8 month old car

Hi Sledge:

___I lost an Insight windshield when a truck tire blew from 3 lanes over and the scattered parts flew into the air like shrapnel. Caused a hell of a traffic mess for about a minute or two … $500 deductible made it a painful experience on my part. ~ a $250.00 painful experience indeed :(

___Good Luck

Hey all,

I've been lurking around for a while and added RSS/XML headlines of posts to monitor activity here. I've been an active member over at GasSavers.org for about a year now (some crossover members might know of me).

Anyways, I absolutely had to respond to this thread. Our old TL finally died, so we traded it in on a new '06 TSX. With only 20 miles on the odo., a ratty old dumptruck merged onto the highway, hit a bump, and dumped about a bucket-load of gravel onto the Interstate. We got pelted. :( It looked like someone took a key and cut streaks onto the hood. Luckily, only the windshield was scratched but the bumper took a beating with dimples. I guess you can't keep a car new forever, or even 10 minutes. The truck had no license plate, and we weren't getting any closer to get the company name.

Anyhoo, if you come over to GS, my project car is a '98 Integra LS Automatic that I've improved FE from 26 to a little over 30. Check out the vehicle reviews thread that compares EPA estimates to actual ScanGauge results. Thanks!

I got a chip in my HCHII's windshield about a month ago. It was only 3 months old. I had just switched lanes behind a motorcycle. It was one of the ugliest motorcycles I had ever seen. I made some disparaging remarks about the motorcycle to my wife. No sooner than I got the words out of my mouth, the motorcycle threw a rock and chipped my windshield. What a sensitive motorcycle.:D The chip had not spread so I was able to get it fixed at no cost through my insurance.

I'm glad the windshield got fixed relatively painlessly.

This evening someone was driving a brand new Toyota Matrix (good car). I can't speak nicely for his driving... Really hissed me off by swearving each time he changed lanes. I lost my cool and mocked his 90-degree turns. Got the feeling he is going to have a short honeymoon with his new Matrix...

Meh. Repairdude comes to my house last Saturday to replace the windshield. Only he doesn't have the OEM glass I requested (they use OEE - original equipment equivalent). So now I'm waiting until Monday :(

Just got it replaced an hour ago. If I hadn't made an insurance claim, it would have cost me $1010  Since I have comprehensive on my insurance, it just cost me my deductible of $100 :)

$1,010? Wow! It sounds like somebody is ripping off the insurance company. My insurance has a $500 deductible on everything (including windshield replacement) except windshield repair (free). My agent told me that if I did not go through insurance, I would always be able to repair for less than the $500 deductible. By going through insurance, he said they would always find a way to charge way over the $500 deductible. My only experience was with my Subaru Outback. It cost us just under $300 to have it replaced--and it had heaters for the wipers. I thought I got OEM, but it was several years ago. Maybe it was only OEE. Either way, it looked the same and lasted until we sold the car.

I was talking to the repair guy about the cost (in general). He said that the worst he's ever seen is the rear hatch glass for the previous generation Chevy Blazer SUV: $2,400!

For that price, I hope they are bullet-proof!

Hi Sledge:

___An internet acquaintance/friend of mine, Bill G. out of Minnesota who is known to hang out in the Prius II forums sent me this pic last year of his Chrysler Minivan after a Landscape Project went south on him … I have no idea what that cost (there was damage to the inside of his Chrysler as well :() but I am sure that back window was not cheap if a Blazer SUV’s rear glass cost over $2K!

That pic reminds me of the time a friend of mine tried to close the tailgate of is Subaru with an empty keg in the trunk. I walked out to find broken glass all over the place with the aluminum wrecking ball poking just beyond the frame, with him curising something about "I'm not going to be able to explain this #@@# to my parents!" (He was sober in case anybody was wondering.)

Somewhere on the internet is a pic of a car parked by a fire hydrant, with side windows broken and the hose passed through. Could have been photoshopped I supppose...

DAS

PS: After BillG (who is a songwriter) disclosed a few other 'adverse events' I suggested to him writing a song called 'Don't ask me how I know'. I did not realize how many verses it might have.

Hi Tochatihu:

___Being a fire brigade member at work and having many friends in the Fire Services of some of the local communities, I have seen this pic more then a few times myself ;) Looks to be about a 5" hose although off a local hydrant, that appears to be a bit oversized … In either case, I thought it was a darn funny way to tell the violator, here is your $150 + ticket for parking in front of a hydrant and to go along with it, you get to clean up the mess left behind! I would have loved to hear how this guy/gal explained this situation to their insurance agent :D
