I just started noticing a lot of used Priuses are on sale! I was looking through the Houston Chronicle car section ads and then noticed a lot of Prius listings. Then I checked Craigslists and noticed lots of Prius listings for Houston too! Do you notice this in your area?

Must be because of ultra cheap gas now! Maybe people are dumping them for a sport car, or horror - back to an SUV!

I've read that lay-offs and unemployment are on the rise. Prius' probably wouldn't be upside-down on their loans, so you'd sell them instead of letting them be repo'ed if you were struggling to make payments.

Prius resale value is so high, sometimes I'd rather buy new but I can't afford that now. I wonder if Toyota Dealers are still gouging customers on a Prius now...

Probably a lot of them coming off lease.

The other instance might be a lot of people bought them, realized they don't drive enough miles to really reap the benefit, and decided to trade in the residual value for another car that's paid off.

I just had a friend ask me about renting them in Austin. Is there a rental company that has some? I've rented cars lately, and I haven't seen any at Budget.

I don't know if they exist in Austin, but around the corner from me there is an agency called "Triangle" that has at least one in their fleet.

I'm guessing it's because of cheap gas ... earlier this year you could hardly find a used Prius, and the asking prices were insane.

Also the economic downturn. Consumer confidence is WAY down, and a lot of people are looking at getting out of those $400-500/month payments so they can weather the storm more easily.

Must be because hypermilers are evil S.O.B's

I local dealer dropped the price of used 2007 Prius from just over $27,000 to just under $20,000.
