Wayne,

Just called me at work around 3:50 PM today Friday 11, 2006. He said he has been in the {Hospital} for the past 3-4 Days. He is still there as of this last phone call to me today.

He said if they release him he will (Try) to get on Chat or Post this evening. If they release him.

He said he was at work and "Pulled-His-Back-Muscles". I take it that it must have been Bad for him to have gone to the Hospital and still there after 3-4 Days.

Tom, I would have given you a call but do-not have any of your numbers. Sorry :(

BTW, How about some Post here to CHEER-WAYNE-UP !!!!!!! :D

Terry,

I had assumed it was work.

I think he will be heartened to know CleanMPG has averaged 60 members daily the last week.

If been blessed with few back problems, even though my sitting posture can be very bad.

Get well, Wayne.

Hi All:

___Thank you for the kind words.

___Sorry I have not kept up the site like I normally would as news is really stale right now :(

___I was in Fire Training and we were ventilating the second floor of a burn tower we drill at. Full gear unfortunately :( The Electric Fan’s we use are ~ 40 - 50 #’s and I carried it up the stairs. I then came back down to grab a cinch type bar and hung that between the door jambs on the second floor entry to hang the fan from. One of the other members was on the side and I was in the front when we lifted the fan. My hook did not catch on my side so I swung around the side and even though she hooked, I felt something let go. A slight twist with a load over my head and that is all she wrote. I made it down just ½ a flight to the first landing before I locked up and couldn’t move … The instructors were right there and knew something was wrong, called off the drill, and helped me down the next few flights to an awaiting chair and ice packs. The Ambulance came, they loaded me up and off I went for the last 36 + hours … Hurt like a SOB and was sick after the morphine but made it through the night. Am home but I cannot sit in this chair to long as it is pain at a 90 degree angle.

___Good Luck

Wayne, your worker's comp rep should be having cold sweats and offering you personal backrubs with mink gloves right now.
If not I'll be happy to drop them a line about at least 2 violations in both training and safety procedures....

i've never pulled my back before, and i lift heavy objects from time to time, so i do not know what's that's like.

From your experience it sounds like your immobilized, glad you surivived through the worse! Hope you get to relax for your recovery.

Wayne,

Hope your back feels better soon. I had a pulled lower back muscle a few years back (mild compared to yours I think, no hospitalizaton). Bed rest and minimal sitting worked for me, hopefully no surgery was required.

Hi wayne

That sounds bad if you've been in the hospital that long for a muscle injury,
but it's good that you documented it right away for workers comp.

I was fighting a high rise fire once and had to break open an apartment door on the 19th floor. Climbing 19 floors with all my gear in the FL heat, I couldn't carry much for force entry. My SCBA twisted as I hit the door with my body and damage my spine. The door broke open and I was able to put out the fire because I didn't think about the pain in all the excitment. Never got treatment, just put up with a sore back. That was in 1979 and I still have problems now and then from it.

Even during drills, you do things that you would do different than if you had time to plan things out. As I look back at my pass career, more firefighters were hurt during drills. Most of the time it was because the officer incharge was not instructing properly to ensure safety of the operation. Not saying that was the case with you here, because accidents will happen.

Take care and demand the best treatment possible. Try to enjoy the time off as best as you can.

You friend Gary from Florida.

PS, keep us up with your injury progress, we are all concerned about the best hypermiler on the planet.

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate accident. I hope it heals fast. I have been through something a little less severe and understand how debilitating it is. I hope you are not too stubborn (as I was) and REST as much as possible in a comfortable position.

I had twisted in school and had the 3rd vertebrae from the bottom slip out of place just a bit, took me forever to stand up and get from room to room. Luckily after several months of bi-weekly chiropractic visits, they finally got me straightened out.

Have they given you any electric muscle therapy to help loosen the tension?

They had me on a routine of electric therapy - massage - adjustment - more electric - home with ice packs.

I also learned after that to NEVER carry a wallet in the back pocket, sleep with a pillow between your knees if on your side OR under you knees to keep you legs bent at a 45 degree angle if on your back, and stomach sleeping is a bad idea (though I am back to it now, and starting to have problems again).

Best wishes to you, I hope your recovery is swift!

Hi Everyone,

I just want to take this opportunity to "Thank" everyone for myself and Wayne as he did reply in an earlier Post.

I have checked to see if Wayne has Posted anything today and I see that he (Has-Not).

Anyway, I just wanted to say to all of you that I'm sure as soon as Wayne is able to sit in a Chair he will be back on the www.CleanMPG.com (http://www.CleanMPG.com) Site. It makes me Feel Proud to read here all the Very Nice Post from all of you to Wayne and I'm sure he feels the same way. :D

So, Thanks everyone for taking the time to Post here and for trying to Cheer up our Friend. Very Nice Indeed.

I just thought of something that I thought I would share with everyone. I had a "Bleed-on-the Brain" about two Yrs. ago. Anyway I guess I am a very Lucky Man to be hear to type this considering all. Now this is really not anything to do with me or what took place with me. The reason I mention the incident that took place with me is this. There were many people that found out by way of mouth/phone/etc. what happened to me and what made the whole experience for me to tolerate was this. Many people called, some sent cards, some brought food, one "Guy" came by the house with a Giant-Smiley-Face-Cookie. A lady came by and brought snacks etc. The reason I am telling this story or sharing this personal tale with all of you is this. When the Bad things happen to any of us the thing that gets us back on our feet really fast is us knowing that people {CARE}. So that is the reason for this, just to say I bet Wayne even though he cannot stand to sit and type right now. When he reads all these Post from all of you he will be "Smiling" inside to know that there are people out there that {CARE}. You know who I am referring to?

All of You Very-Nice, Caring People. Your the Best (IMHO)

Thanks to all of you. :D

Wayne --

So sorry to hear about your mishap. :( I've been fortunate, but I know from friends how awful a back injury can be. Please concentrate on your recuperation, even if it means you can't spend as much time at the keyboard right now as you would like.

I'm thinking good thoughts for your speedy recovery (& the kitties send extra purrs, too :cat: :cat: )

Take good care.

Well, I talked to wayne earlier today. I keep trying to tell him to relax and heal for a few days, but he insists that he wants to post news items and stuff so the board doesn't slow down. As a gift to him try to get the number of posts up so he doesn't have to come in here and do it for us ;)

Anyone that has any news they want to put up could save him some effort by posting it and letting him know where it is. That way he won't spend hours trying to find suitable news to fill the front page. :)

If he's got a *very* comfy way to settle in front of the computer
that doesn't put any strain on the back, it's probably a good
way to pass the time...
.
or maybe we could just set up a script to scrape stuff off GH
and PC and wherever else and just repost it verbatim! Heh..

Hi Everyone:

I just hung up after talking to Wayne for awhile on the phone. Here is an update.

He went back to the Dr. today and they have him on Steroids and other Pain Meds. He is sleeping like 18 Hrs. a day now. He can only sit in a chair for like 2-3 minutes at a time. Without the Pain Meds he would be in Terrific Pain. Not Playing, I'm Serious. He will go back to the Dr. for X-Rays on his back this coming Monday. His disc in his back may be {Torn}. They cannot do anything at this point because he is to Messed up to go in and do a Repair or to actually find out what has happened. So X-Ray's Monday to hopefully give them the much needed info. to decide what needs to be done. This is kinda hard for even me to type, even though I was in Viet Nam once upon a time. However here goes, Wayne was down on all 4's crawling to his vehicle to drive his self to the Dr's appointment today. So talk about Pain. :( I don't see how he did it.

He will not be going to the Milwaukee meeting this Saturday per {My-Request}. I ask him if he would not go and take care of his self until he can get this situation resolved. Hopefully he will do as I "Begged" him to do and stay home. Hopefully !!!!!

As all of you that know Wayne already realize he is very concerned about CleanMPG and it's content without him being able to contribute. So if any of you members can add to the Threads or Post on CleanMPG I'm sure Wayne would very much appreciate it. In-fact I will go as far as saying I know he will.

As I talk with him I will be glad to Post here any Updates on his condition as I find them out. I think the next News will be after his X-Rays on Monday.

Terry

BTW, Several have sent PM's to Wayne. I think that for the present time I would ask that No-One sends him PM's until he gets back on his feet. If you knew him you would realize why I say this. He just needs to get through this and not worry about CleanMPG right now.
Thanks, Terry

How awkward for the ambulance driver: To have a patient in the back screaming in pain, hopped up on pain killers and shouting at him to slow down on the straight-aways, don't slow down on the turns, coast down the hills, and lay off the accelerator on the hills. What's the pressure in those tires? Do you really need all this heavy equipment all the time? What are you getting with this thing: 15MPG?

Best wishes, Wayne. I'll go to the MHG meeting in your stead and act intelligent for you.

Hi All:

___Thank you again for all the kind words …

___I setup a soft recliner next to my workstation with ice packs as lumbar support so I will try and play some catch up today …

___The Steroids are helping but the Valium is really a knock out drug if I do say so myself. I was telling Terry I have been trying to watch DVD’s and remember maybe 15 – 20 minutes of them and fall asleep. It took over 7.5 hours to watch “The Day After Tomorrow” yesterday :(

___Tony, although Terry all but forbid me to go to Milwaukee this weekend, I jut might make decide to go if the pain is subsiding. I will call you Friday night. Tom will want to come along as he has little in the way of Prius II driving experience under his belt.

___Let us just see how posting goes today …

___Good Luck and thank you all.

Hi Linda:

___After the steroids, the Valium, Celebrex, Vicodin, the Hydroceatgfjrri’hg (whatever it is called), ice packs, making chairs out of more pillows then the reclining chair itself, and enough sleep to last me about 3 months, I am starting get around a bit better compared to the last 4 days ago when I couldn’t even stand up. Still taking it easy and sleeping a lot but the web site needed work and I am just getting back into the swing of things …

___With that, I am glad I had the chance to mention Hybridfest in the short time allotted. If I could have had another 1/2 hour, we could have done a lot more wrt HF2007 if you know what I mean ;)

___Good Luck and thank you for the well wishes.
