Chuck 11-04-2008, 03:41 PM This Election is most like... lamebums 11-05-2008, 11:45 AM I'm tempted to say 1992 because HW Bush wasn't really a conservative, and neither was John McCain this year. The conservatives stayed home and/or didn't donate in the big numbers the GOP is used to; they got hammered as a result. wdb 11-07-2008, 10:54 AM 1960, because of the emergence of a voting bloc comprised of energized youth, and the election of a President with the charisma, charm and intelligence to motivate them. Let's hope they do better than we boomers! Chuck 11-07-2008, 11:02 AM More I think about it, the more "any of the above" is a good answer. 1932 - We definitely have an economic crisis now 1960 - Obama is chaismatic 1968 - More of a Bush/LBJ comparison of unpopular President with a lingering war and domestic discontent 1980 - Both economic woes and charisma...shoe on the other foot - a failed adminstration attempting to say the alternative is even worse. Reagan, the Obama appeared confident and had a plan - got elected. 1992 - Economic woes Tochatihu 11-07-2008, 09:16 PM ...conservatives stayed home... McCain received 4.7 million fewer votes than Bush did in 2004. I am inclined to say that not many conservatives stayed home. If all 4.7 M had voted, Obama would still have won the popular. This election was not about the number who did not vote "R" it was about the number that did vote "D". Thus its most similar in history should be sought in those terms. DAS Harold 11-08-2008, 12:17 PM I think 2008 was a whole new ball game!!! And for the better? H vBulletin® v3.6.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
