Left Lane News (http://www.leftlanenews.com/prius-brand-a-go-for-toyota.html) reports, "Whispers of a highway rating anywhere between 60 and 80 mpg have been heard." The car will feature "a slightly larger motor, moving from a 1.5L to a 1.8L motor," but probably not the Lithium-ion batteries that Toyota is said to be developing.
Good luck: Chevy Volt

Ooh! In light of this news, would anyone be interested in an easily driven '07 Prius ASAP?;):D
Hi All:
___When I see a whole list of proclamations, I have to ask the source just as you all do. This one has to many and thus the “I believe” button takes a hit…
Another Rumor, Another Dose of Truth (http://blog.toyota.com/2008/10/another-rumor-another-dose-of-truth.html)
"Prius brand a ‘go’ for Toyota," trumpets the headline. Well, we suppose this will generate traffic for LeftLaneNews.com, the site that carried the story. But it also proves that you just cannot believe everything you read on the Internet.
The LLN post tells us, "You can now file this one under ‘confirmed’ as Toyota’s new green brand has been given the green light."
The trouble with this report is that it’s completely false. A reader might suspect that, actually, since the post doesn’t contain the name of a source – or even suggest that there was a source, other than what the post calls "the rumor mill."
What I can confirm is that the possibility of a separate Prius brand is something that we’ve been studying and discussing internally here at Toyota. But no decision about this has been made, no product has been identified, and there certainly has been no timetable established for the rollout of such a brand.
___Good Luck

I believe it, if the EPA has finally adopted the "DiamondLarry Highway Mileage Test" ;)

Theoretically speaking, bumping up the EV threshold to 62mph and giving the engine a better shot at staying out of the "power" valve profile should give the highway rating a nice bump. But I'm thinking more like 50mpg per the EPA rating, not 60 or 80. Those numbers should be a gimme in a HS P&G cycle, though, which is where the glide-limited Prius II falls flat on its face.

If this is true, I will be selling my Jetta and buying on of these. If anyone is in the market for a Jetta let me know.

You're making me blush.:o What else do ya got?:D Yeah, I get at least 60mpg on a bad trip on the highway. When I came home from Wayne's last December in that near-blizzard, I backed into my garage with 60.*. To give you an idea of how bad it was, the top speed on I-94 was ~40mph and no lane markings were visible.
